I am considering leaving the hospital setting and going into home health. I don't really know a whole lot about it so I am hoping to find some help here. Do HH nurses have to work weekends and holidays? If yes, is it every other weekend like in the hospital or something different? And holidays?

Also, on the application it has a place for salary....any ideas for that? I live in PA. Also, the position listed is for FT Home health RN/case manager...is this different than regular home visits? Thanks in advance for your help.:flowersfo

If you would be doing shift care, you could work any day(s) of the week and shift(s) that you want. You just coordinate your availability with your staffing coordinator. Most intermittent visits are done during the week but you can coordinate weekend visits if you want and they are available. An RN case manager would most likely work M-F, but you could be scheduled to be the on-call RN for the weekends. I always write "open" or "negotiable" for salary. You should find out from other nurses what to expect for salary in your area or you could call other agencies and ask them what they pay their RNs. Hope you like hh.

At my home care agency we work every 5th weekend. I typically work M-Fri and on call weekend every 3 months. I'm wondering how many patients nurses typically see in a day. When I started back in June our average productivity was 4.5 patients per day. Yesterday I was scheduled for 4 PICC/LABS and 2 PT/INR's. I about died!

weekends and holidays mostly depend on the size of your agency, I find being a case manager much easier than a float, you have the control over your caseload and you know what is going on with your patients....a routine day for us is 7 (sometimes 8 or 9) and driving about 80 miles a day,,,

Hello NurseeB, I am new to HH just 11 months in, I did the hospital for several years, and surgery and clinic nursing. I was looking for a job where I could work less days and perhaps return to school. Well I work week-ends only and 1 day during the week, and I really like it. Just enough to keep me from feeling burnt out, and I make more now than those other jobs. I don't have to take call, and they usually let me off if I ask off 2 weeks ahead! The hospital only allowed 2 week-ends off a year!! I LOVE working only 3 days, LOL. Hope you like it!

We have about 50 nurses and we work every 4th weekend, one summer and one winter holiday. An average day for me is 6-8 patients and around 40-60 miles. Where in pa are you?? I live in PA also.
