Hello Everyone
I dont know if am posting in the right thread , but I would like to know does failing A&P means that you wont be successful in nursing school. My sp 07 a&p professor was telling me even though I was doing good in the class, but it wasnt good to say I would be successful or even get into a nursing program. I recieved a grade of c- so I am retaking the course. I just couldnt shake the feeling of being discouraged.
Then she asked me what program I want to do , I said want to pursue a bsn . She then said are you sure you want to do that as if there was something wrong going for a bsn.
I hoping someone could give there experience or opinion.
Thanks
Nicole

I would say do not get discouraged. A&P is a very tough course and maybe your teacher just did not fit your learning style. Did you have alot going on during the semester? A&P takes alot to time to memorize everything and so much is thrown at you. I do not think that one can base someone's entire career choice on one class.
There is nothing wrong with going for a BSN. Really the only difference is taking all of your basics that go towards a bachelor's degree. Not that much harder than ADN. You can do it. Do not let this teacher discourage you. Pick yourself up and try harder this next time and then see how you do. If you still have trouble have you considered taking Biology first? A&P builds on what you learn in Biology and some people just need more foundation than others...that does not mean you are not cut out to be a nurse.
Now if it takes you something like 7 times repeating A&P, then I might consider rethinking the career choice. But hey...you did pass with a C and that is more than some can say.
Hang in there! If you keep your eye on the prize, I think you can do anything you set your mind to!

I would suggest changing professors for your next attempt. I have ran into a few professors who somehow have taken upon themselves to weed out those of us they do not feel worthy. In my opinion these are community college professors who have too much time on their hands, and want to feel more important. This one particular professor kept saying she was the ONLY professor in all of DCCCD who was able to prepare you for nursing school. She constantly told us horror stories of how we would never sleep once we started nursing school, how most of us would never make it there, and a majority of ones who did wouldn't make it through. Doom and Gloom. I swear that was the worst semester ever because you start to question what your doing.
Don't base anything on one class or a psycho self important professor. Just retake the class and make a better grade.

I dont' think the instructor was all that pyscho, although you shouldn't be discouraged if you really want to be a nurse.
A&P is the backbone of nursing practice. You have to know the normal A&P so as to learn what to do with pathologies settle in and what you're going to do about that.
Nursing courses are pretty equal in difficulty to A&P, so if you're struggling with A&P, it's likely you're might struggle with nursing as well. Doesn't mean you're going to fail however.
Don't take the comments to heart that you're going to be a failure. But don't blow them off as pyscho babble either.
Good luck to you!!!

I wouldn't get too discouraged. Sounds to me like your prof might have meant that if you struggle with A&P you may struggle with the rest of the coursework. But... A&P isn't an easy course... and for someone who teaches it and knows it inside and out.. they may forget that.
So...since you are already taking it over... see what happens. If you do better this time around... Great! And if it still seems to be too difficult.. then maybe take a step back and re-evaluate what might be going on (I got an A in both A&P.. but it was the only course I was taking at the time)... I also stay home with the kids and my husband was able to give me lots of study time on the weekends.
Good luck to you! You can do it!!

Only you know you and if you are able to compete in Nursing. Sit back and weigh your own feelings against what she said. A&P is difficult, so maybe you need to do something to make it more manageable this time. Did you put into it everything you should? I get C's when I don't apply myself like I should, but I can't speak about A&P because I have not had it yet. If you are working your hardest to complete this course, get a tutor and if that doesn't help then re-evaluate everything. If you feel the professor was wrong then prove it to her and yourself!!
Thanks everyone for your responce.
