Hey,

I know this has been addressed through a thread before but everything I saw was 2-5 years old. Is there anyone who has traveled recently through a "walk-through" state.

The recruiter I talked with this am gave me these states that they have placed RNs lately: Kansas, California, Vermont, and Hawaii.

This is a website that gives the list of COMPACT STATES which is not the same as a walk-through state. https://www.ncsbn.org/158.htm

This is a website for all 50 states BON information. http://www.worldwidetravelstaffing.com/boards.htm

[mouse]Yes, "walk-through" means you can get your TEMPORARY PERMIT in one day.

You fill out all your paperwork for Licensure by Endorsement, and go to the Board of nursing office in that state.

They go over your paperwork and, if everything is "in order", give you your temporary permit right then and there!!!

:banghead: i have been trying to find some more postings on "walk-through" states but have come up short. :banghead:

if you hold a "multi-state" or "compact state" license in any of these states you can practice in any of these states.list of compact states: arizona, arkansas, delaware, idaho, iowa, kentucky, maine, maryland, mississippi, nebreska, new hampshire, new mexico, north and south carolina, north and south dakota, tennessee, texas, utah, virginia, and wisconsin.

I found this document on the web and found it very helpful with regards to licensing times

OK...So, I have a license in Tennessee. This means I can go travel to Hawaii and not do anything with my license? Do I get another license, or just keep the one I have?

Hawaii is not a compact state, so you will have to get a Hawaii License. Walk-through is not the same as compact. Walk-through means that if you have all of the proper paperwork, you can go to the BON office and get your temporary license the same day. Check the Hawaii BON's website for more info.

Just having a license in a Compact State is not enough. Your primary "home" license must be in a Compact State - your official state of residence. So if your home is in Ohio (not a Compact State) and you have a Tennessee license (a Compact State) you CANNOT work in another Compact State without obtaining a license for that state as well.
