Wake Tech Spring 2017 Start

Has anyone ever met the math requirement by taking the placement test, or has everyone pretty much taken a math class? I was thinking about taking the placement test just in case I had to reapply to the program (my math right now is valid but will expire if I don't get in by 2017). I know students have to score a certain score on the placement test for that to count as your math proficiency but was told it's hard to get that score. On modules 010-040 you have to get at least a 7 out of 12? Any advice?

Jpeters247, I'm taking Nutrition and Developmental Psychology both online. I was thinking about taking a math course this summer since my math class will expire in spring 2017. If I went ahead and took a math course then if I hypothetically didn't get in when I applied in July, I would have the opportunity to apply again. I know for nursing you can just take the placement test if your math expires to meet the math requirement, but I'm also applying to the radiography program and that program requires an actual class, you can't sit for the placement test to meet the math requirement. Although nursing is my priority, I'm keeping my options open. I really hope I get pulse or respirations, but it'll be my luck I get blood pressure. My exam is at Wake Tech in early May.

I would take Statistics if I were you.

Most employers make you get your BSN within 5 years of hire and Stats will be required for that. I'm in that predicament now. Wake Techs nursing program is awesome but it's a shame how much is required for the BSN after it.

I just took the math placement because my math was too old. Placed out of all the the lower, non credit maths. Very easy.

Hi MendedHeart! My math that is about to expire is actually a statistics course. I got news yesterday that starting Fall 2017, maths have to be no more than five years old from the clinical application deadline, it will no longer be five years from the start of clinical. Luckily that keeps my math valid for Spring 2017 and Fall 2017 if I have to reapply. I wonder if for the RN to BSN program if they have classes that age out too? Now I'm curious, how are the programs for RN to BSN? I thought most programs were one year online courses. I wonder too if it's easier for people who have a degree outside of an ADN because the RN to BSN program could pull classes from that other degree?

Does anyone know any info on how far back they accept bios?? Mine are more than 5 years and I'm not sure if I have to retake before I apply? Please help!! I look forward to your response!

Hi! I'm not sure when the pre reqs expire. My bios 168 and 169 are more than 5 years old and I have B's in both. I sure don't want to retake but if I have to then I will.

Laila34, I went back and looked to see if at the information session we were provided with information on our BIO classes, and how long they would last before they expire. I do see that BIO 168, BIO 169, and BIO 175 all have to be within five years of entering the NUR clinical. It's crazy that there are so many details for the program. I wish we would just take the classes and they didn't expire. Good luck to you!

Hey CN2bRN, question about your TEAS exam, what books, methods and time frame did you use for studying for the TEAS? Any tips

Hi Jpeters247, I used the McGraw-Hill 5 TEAS Practice Test, I also hung out in Barnes and Noble for a couple of days looking through the Study Manual by ATI that everyone raves about. I couldn't bring myself to buy it (it was a little pricey for me), but the material was very similar to the exam. I prepared for about a month before I took it. I wish I would have spent more time focusing on English and Reading as those were my lowest scores. I spent so much time on science and math but I was very satisfied with my score in those sections. Definitely be comfortable doing simple math without a calculator (fractions, percents, PEMDAS, etc). Science was pretty basic. If you've taken your sciences for the program you should be okay, just brush up. Make sure you know the basics of the periodic table, electronegativity, basic anatomy etc... basic chemistry. The test is not too bad. Study hard and you should do well. I also took a lot of practice tests, especially online just so I would be comfortable with the types of questions that I could be asked.

Thanks for your immediate response and your research on my behalf CN_RN919!!! I found out that 1 of my bios is good (2011)..whew! However, I took it at UNC and I don't think it's equivalent to wake tech bc of lab hours. I will verify hopefully this week. These bios are very tricky! I am retaking bio 169 over this summer. I'm also taking the TEAS and getting my CNA this summer. I have a lot to do but it can be done with dedication. I just hope that they accept my bio 168 and I should be good. Also, as far as points, I have 156 right now but hopefully I do well on teas and get the extra 20, 12, or 6 points added.
