I am not sure you can work as a nurse in the US until you take the NCLEX and pass it in the US.

But I would speak to the BON in California and get direction on how to proceed. What you would not want to do is to get a visa, come to the US and find that you can not work as a nurse. So I would make sure of the definite steps first.

Hello guys, im new here. just want to ask is it necessary to take NCLEX when applying for visa screen? my cousin who has a nursing home in california told me i just need ielts and my license here in the philippines. He told me to take NCLEX when im already in the US.

One of the requirements to get visa screen certificate is a pass in either NCLEX or CGFNS exam. Employers applying for a work or immigrant visa will in most cases expect to see a pass in NCLEX. Plus CA are very strict with International applications and you may have huge issues getting a license for CA and work as a RN

You cannot apply to CA without a US SSN. CA do their own assessment and at the moment many International Nurses are not meeting requirements. Suggest a good read in the Nurse Registration forum where many threads discuss this.

even if my cousin will petition me? or will hire me as his employee? he said once i applied for visa screen he will file for petition. i really dont know how the petition works. im sorry im not familiar with it yet.

Yes, doesn't matter who petitions you you have to meet requirements and to work as a RN in the US that means meeting state requirements and passing NCLEX. If he is petitioning you for immigrant visa then you have a 7 plus year wait as the date for the Philippines has gone back to 2007

oh i really have a slim chance going there. is there a way that i can take nclex since most states require SSN as one of the requirements? i also applied in canada express entry program but my points are low. confused right now.

Not all states require a US SSN to submit application they just don't all issue licenses without a SSN

oh thank you admin. is there a thread regarding canada's express entry? actually my plan in going to USA is my second option, my initial plan is to apply for canada FSW i submitted my papers on november 2014 but sadly i was cut out because apparently they are just giving 1000 slots around the world and the new system now is to apply for a job using the job bank.

Have you started the process with a provincial college of RN's to get your nurse registration sorted?

no admin. i applied for an immigrant visa under the federal skilled worker program. i have an agency who helped me complete all the requirements but sadly as i said in my previous post i was not lucky to have a file number because they were just getting around 1000 nurses internationally. Canada have regular draws under express entry using point system. But i only have 342 points which i guess is too low as compared to others from other countries.
