Vertigo

Hey everyone,

Quick question. Is vertigo a medical diagnosis or is it a symptom?

Featured Replies

Both. Vertigo can be the symptom of numerous conditions or a stand alone condition such as the case with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo ( BPPV ).

I'd say it's a symptom, not a diagnosis... it always has an underlying issue. BPPV is the diagnosis. Another example is vestibular neuronitis, which I'm all too familiar with... many conditions could involve vertigo.

For our household vertigo is a symptom of Minere's Disease for my husband.

I have know people who have been diagnosed with BPV as well as stated by Gila, so I think it depends on the case.
