Va background checkshad

Published

I just completed eqip, vetpro and all the other things that go along with the VA hiring process. I am scheduled for drug test and fingerprints this Tuesday and obviously already have my tentative offer.. With that being said there is a question on the forms asking abut having resigned before discharge or disciplinary action could occur. Well, I answered no because even though I had a patient's husband file a complaint, my work looked into the complaint and determined there was nothing to be discharged or disciplined for but since he had my personal cell phone that I should be counseled about giving out cell phone numbers and professional boundaries. I was so stressed about the whole thing I decided to resign and take the summer off. She said she was sorry to hear that. I asked if she still wanted me to meet her and my director said no and that she would just put my resignation with the counseling paper she wanted me to sign. Well, even though I wasn't being fired or disciplined and I answered appropriately, I feel like I should let them know. On the other hand I feel like it doesn't apply because I didn't resign before discipline or discharge could take place. Suggestions?

If it was true that you were not expecting to be discharged from the position, or disciplined because of the incident, that's that. It's ONLY an issue if during your background check, the person you name as the contact for this employment has a different story. If her story matches yours...no issue. If she says they would likely have reported you to the BoN, or suspended or terminated you....BIG issue.

Don't overthink it :)
