Hi all!
I am trying to get in to the nursing program at UWF for the fall semester of 2011. I am currently taking pre reqs at PJC and will be done by the end of this spring semester. I was a former architecture student and did not like what all that the profession entailed, so I decided to go nursing. (to be quite honest I was always interested in something medical) Anyhow I was wondering how hard it is to get into this program. I know the minimum gpa the school requires is a 2.75 but from what i've heard and have been reading hardly ever will this admit you into the program. Seems like everyone that gets in has a much higher gpa than this. Also i know the TEAS exam precent requirement is 73%. I take it on Dec. 21, just in time for Christmas lol If anyone out there knows anything about how hard it is to get in to this school your advice is much appreciated. Also I'm going to try to apply to the University of South Alabama and was thinking about applying to UNF as well. Any advice about getting in to these schools is welcome and wated too :) I just want to get into some program and get my bachelors degree. lol I've been in school for a while and have lost some time due to the major switch, but I'm ready to get in and get done lol Thanks for the help.

What pre-reqs do you still have left to take? I am a current student at UWF, and over the summer my advisor informed me that all the science pre-reqs must be completed prior to applying to the nursing program. He said this was a change from the previous year's application process. I was surprised that this was the case, since I do not believe the nursing department's website mentions this.

I took Chemistry 1 and 2 and stats over the summer and I'm currently taking A&P 1 with lab and a basic bio class along with organic chemistry ( i know the bio class and organic i don't need for the program but i want to go to PA school eventually and it looks good with these classes under your belt so to speak :) ) In the spring I'll be taking nutrition, A&P2 with lab, micro with lab, and human growth and development. I read somewhere though that Allied Health students have to have pathophysiology at some point too, but i thought that was part of the upper division nursing program..
(forgot to write it above but i also took psychology and sociology when i was getting my A.A. at PJC)

You do not have to compelte prereqs until the 2012 application period. For 2011 I have been told by the advisor at UWF Nursing that you have until end of Spring semester to compelte prereqs. The new policy goes into effect in 2012. This is why it is no tlisted on website, so I think you were misinformed. I would check with Dept of Nursing as they really know what is going on. I have heard it is really hard to get in, my friend got in and had a 3.5 GPA but she said most everyone had a 3.3 GPA or higher. So yes a minimum GPA but most have higher GPAs. I would apply to several schools just in case.

I am also trying to find out what GPA and what score on TEAS do I need to get in to UWF. I have 4.0 on prereq and 3.87 overall GPA. Tomorrow I am taking TEAS. Anyone has any idea what score would get me in?

does UWF put more weight on the Overall Gpa or the Pre-req?
I think you have to have a 73% or 74% on the TEAS V test to get in. :)
You need 73% for your application to be considered but that doesn't mean you will get in... :-/ I was wonder was is the average score of ppl that got in in past semesters
i finally turned in my application today. i just took the teas v recently because i have been waiting on hearing decisions from some other schools, but it was getting down to the wire, so i figured i better just take it and apply. i applied to a few accelerated programs throughout the state, and i decided i should apply to uwf since i already live in the surrounding area and in case the other programs do not work out. i was really nervous about taking the teas v because i heard it was supposed to be much harder than 4.0, but it really wasn't too bad. good luck to everyone! i am hoping we will have a decision sooner than the may 17th date given on the nursing application.
78taylor99,
Kudos for getting the application ^in. :) Im just waiting on my immunization form to get finished... Had to go get my tetorifice shot yesterday... I didn't take off my band aid before heading out to the beach afterward and now have a band-aid tan to show for it lol anyways good luck :) where else did you apply to ^in the state? And I agree that the wait of May 17th is kind of long, but one ofthe schools I applied to I won't hear from them until June sometime :-/ the wait is gonna kill me.. Lol
Ha, that is funny about your band-aid tan. :) It was so nice out this weekend! I just had my immunization form signed off this morning. I had most of my shots done back in '09 because I almost applied for the 2010 program, but I did have to get a new TB test and have my titers drawn. I had those done earlier this month, but the office didn't have a doctor or PA on staff, so I had to go somewhere else to get the form signed. I'm glad it is all done now though. I applied to accelerated programs at UCF, FAU, USF, and I also applied to UCF's traditional program. I should find out really soon about the accelerated programs at UCF and FAU. Where else did you end up applying?
Wow good luck getting into the programs :) I applied to FSU, UNF, and UF traditional programs... i know i have about a snowball's chance in hades for getting in to UF's nursing program.. they even have a little disclaimer on the website that basically tells transfers to not hold their breath and apply to other schools.. (sigh) UF is my first choice. If I don't get in there and get into UWF I'll end up staying in the Pensacola area to save money on living expenses. again sigh.. ive lived here for way too long lol
