UW BSN

Anyone apply to the UW BSN program for fall 2010? Next week we find out if we get to write a proctored essay, so basically if they ask you not to write one does that mean that you can expect a denial letter :crying2: ? Wondering if anyone has went through this process.

Thank you :)

I don't know if they give you a denial letter for the first round. I think they let all applicants know by e-mail if you should come in to write the proctored essay or not...and if your e-mail says you're not invited then your application was probably not competitive enough, and therefore you're not admissible. If you make it to the proctored essay round, then I think that's when you actually receive an acceptance/denial letter afterward in April.

I could be wrong though. Oh, and don't forget those few applicants who are extraordinary and can be admitted without even having to write the essay.

A little more than a week left...I'll be checking my e-mail like crazy.

As far as I know, your email says one of three things:

1. Your app was good enough to offer you a spot immediately. No need to worry about the proctored essay and you get to coast for awhile. These people, more or less, walk on water.

2. Your app was not competitive enough - thanks, but no thanks. You'll still get a rejection letter in April, but at least you know.

3. Your app was good and they haven't made a full decision on you, so they want you to do the proctored essay. This is the group that has the pleasure of sweating things out to April, when letters go out.

I've done this before, I'm doing it again. I'll tell you that historically, I received the immediate rejection on the 12th (which I believe is either on or close to the deadline they set for sending out emails for the proctored essay) and I received the proctored essay invite on the 8th. This, however, could mean very little...I just happened to notice the dates the other night. :)

Good luck!

thank you guys for the info now I know what to expect and good luck to all of you I will be checking my email like crazy too.

good luck guys.. it's a great school

I have also applied and am waiting anxiously for an e-mail. I assumed that all e-mails go out on the 12th but it sounds like that's not the case. I am really nervous now, do you think if you don't get an e-mail by the 10th or 11th you will probably will be rejected??

Thanks and good luck to you guys, let me know if any of you have gotten an e-mail!

I did not apply but I know several undergraduates at UW who are trying to get in to the BSN program this time or who have in the past, unsuccessfully. It is so competitive. A lot of UW students who are sophomores or juniors apply and never get in and end up having to major in something else. I have one friend whose second language is English, and she was invited for the proctored writing exam last year, but did not get accepted. So she has really worked in the last year to improve her English.

I hear so much about the UW BSN program and how hard it is to get into from many people and I was very hesitant to apply but did anyways. Washington nursing programs are very tough to get into and very competitive compared to other states. I applied in California and Utah and got into both programs and was placed on a waitlist. I would rather go here if I can get in but it justs seems so difficult to get in. This is my second year applying and I did 5 schools this year around instead of the two I tried last year but I dont know if I am the only one that feels this way but these programs are a bit picky, there are many qualified students that would do great in these programs but get rejected constantly. Not only is the application process and waiting frustrating but then you have to deal with the denial letters. Anyways wish you all luck this week on hearing back from UW for your essays.

bina11, I agree. The application process is extremely time consuming and exhausting, and to put in all that work only to be handed a denial is a hard blow. Best we can do is pick ourselves back up and try, try again. (And eat ice cream, which seems to get me through the tough times...) ;)

Good luck to you as well.

bina11-

I agree as well!! I applied to five different programs just hoping to get into ONE of them. I think this is absolutely ridiculous considering I have a good gpa and a lot of experience, why should I be biting my nails hoping I will be in a program this Fall. Anyway, I guess people just like us go through this every year!! Plus it's sooo worth it if you get into a great program.

Here's hoping that we all get in!!

Let me know if you guys get an e-mail, maybe then I'll know if I'll be getting a good one or not.......

I am checking my email as soon as I hear anything I will post it up here good or bad just so we all know when they are being sent.

Have you guys heard anything yet? I'm still waiting on this one and Seattle U's APNI, and I'm losing my mind  Bina11, I think the nursing programs out here are insanely competitive as well. I'm originally from another state, and the friends I have who did nursing school there never had to go through admissions processes like the ones in Washington. I will also post here as soon as I hear anything as well.
