UTMB Fall 2017

Hi everyone!

I cannot believe it's actually time for me to apply to nursing school. It seems like I've been working on my pre-reqs forever now and it's finally here. I didn't see any utmb 2017 fall hopefuls yet so I thought I'd create a thread. I'm having one heck of a time with the application process. I'm taking my teas next Wednesday and submitting my application after that. Has anyone sent in their transcripts through nursingCAS yet? Anyone have any pre-reqs they still need to complete? I have one last semester to finish. Good luck to everyone applying this semester!

No ma'am. I took it on the computer at the psi testing center in houston. This next time I take it ill be a different testing center in downtown. Hopefully this time around I will know my results immediately, but I'm not counting on it.

Really? Did you take the paper pencil version or on the computer?

I assumed it would be like the HESI where you see your scores after each section.

Interesting to know. My school offers it because their ADN program requires the TEAS, so that is where I will be taking mine.

Good luck on your retake!

Hey!

I was planning on applying for the fall but I don't think I will be able to anymore. I signed up for the TEAS (paper/pencil version) the day before the deadline because that was all that was available. I thought I would be okay since on their website all it says is to take it before the deadline and not have all scores submitted by the deadline. Guess I was wrong :(

Does anyone have any advice on how to tackle the personal statement? I'm terrible at writing about myself.

I had my sister's help with it. She kind of "interviewed " me, so she would write down key points which we expanded on.

If you have someone you can bounce things off of, that knows you pretty well, I feel like that helps.

Has anyone submitted their application yet? I just submitted mine to NursingCAS and am wondering how long it takes for them to verify it.

Good luck everyone!!

I am waiting for my TEAS scores to submit, but besides that everything is done with my application.

This is what I found on their website for the timeline: https://nursing.utmb.edu/admissions/ApproximateApplicationTimeline.pdf

I did email someone regarding a question I had on the application, and she said as long as it's submitted by the deadline we are fine. The verification period is separate from it (from what I understood).

I also made an 80% on my composite score for the TEAS ATI. I am retaking it this next week to see if I can improve. I talked to an advisor and she said I didn't need to retake the exam but since fall is competitive it wouldn't hurt. I just want to raise the science section to above a 75% which I got a 70% on the first time I took the test. Was the second TEAS you took similar to the first? Like did the questions change substantially? Thanks.

Imo the second time I took it, the material was more challenging. I ended up scoring a few points lower in the science section the second time around. Pretty disappointed about that. All my scores are above a 60 which is the minimum requirement. I made an 80 overall. I'm hoping my gpa, personal statement, and medical experiences will help me get accepted. If not, try try again!

I finally submitted my application! Oh gosh, here comes the torturous waiting game.....:nailbiting:

Did you have your transcript verified through NursingCas yet? Pretty nervous at the moment, didn't send them my transcripts till last week (was in a minimester class that I wanted to get on there) and I'm afraid that things won't get verified in time.

Everything else is submitted.
