UTHSCSA Fall 2021 Applicants

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello, everyone!

I haven't seen a thread yet for UT Health Science Center at San Antonio's Fall 2021 Nursing Program Applicants. I thought it would be nice to get to know other students and to update each other during the process since I've heard it can take a while.

Good luck to everyone who applied!

Hey there,

I've also have applied to UT health for fall 2021. In waiting mode. LOL

What are your stats if you don't mind to share?

Hey! Sorry for the late response, things have been crazy because of the storm. I hope you're doing well and weren't affected too badly.

I don't mind sharing!

Overall GPA: 3.74

Math and Science GPA: 3.52

I didn't take the TEAS because they said admissions were waiving that requirement due to covid. While I don't have much volunteer experience during college, I do have medical experience as Nursing Aide and from when I served in the Army as a medic, hopefully that will even out!

I read that last year the interview notifications weren't sent out until almost mid-April, so I'm trying to stay busy and not lose my mind LOL.

Hey! Yeah, Winter storm was crazy... Hopefully you and your family doing well.
You got great stats and plus your experience in healthcare is gonna play a huge part in your application!

My overall GPA 3.6

Math and science GPA: 3.8

I took TEAS only cuz I was applying to other school as well... My TEAS score is low... But great thing is that UT Health SA doesn’t take it this year...  ?

I’ve volunteered in hospital and food bank... hopefully that will be good enough. ? It’s sucks that they take so long to send out their responses, but will be here waiting patiently... I want to get my CNA meanwhile. ?

Greetings Fall 2021 applicants! I hope everyone stayed warm and safe during the Winter storm!

This will be my second time applying to UTHSCSA. I applied for the Spring and got interviewed- I didn’t make the cut. I was told it was extremely competitive this year due to the TEAS being waived for this year. Double the applicants! DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED!

I wasn’t wise and didn’t apply to multiple programs for the Spring.. hence why I’m having to re-apply again AND this time to other programs! I applied to UIW and Galen. I just got called to schedule an interview with UIW and Galen has accepted me already (it’s extremely easy to get accepted from them...)

My Stats: Cumulative: 3.1 Pre Reqs: 3.4 TEAS 80

I know.. GPA isn’t the best. However, I’ve been told there have been people that get in with below 3.5.  I’ve been a MST at University Hospital going on my 6th year! I love it, but I’m so eager to do more!!

We should be receiving invites for interviews by the end of March. I can’t stress this enough, PREPARE AND PRACTICE FOR THIS INTERVIEW! Learn from my mistakes. I normally excel very well with in person interviews.. however this was my first time doing a pre-recorded interview and I didn’t prepare as appropriately.  Best wishes to all!

Hi Yve,

Thanks for sharing your experience! I have also applied to UIW, but haven't got any calls yet or I might missed their call. LOL   Did you apply for Galen's BSN program or they have you do ADN first? If you have to choose between Galen and UIW, which one would you go to ? Thank you.

They should be calling you soon I’m sure! Check your voicemail! They left me one yesterday. I applied to Galens BSN program! Honestly I’m still unsure. I’m thinking Galen over UIW, it’s a bit cheaper.  My cousin is on her last semester with UIW and she said Hospitals prioritized Galen students over UIW for clinicals. I just wanted to have more options this round. Hope this helps! Let’s keep each other updated!

What questions did they ask on interview with UTHSCSA if you don't mind to share?  Thank you

From what I remember:

What is your philosophy on nursing? When is a time you took initiative? Explain the role of a nurse during a community disaster. How will you make sure you can manage daily life duties and studying?  There were 2 written responses.
I’m really not fond of their method for the interview portion. They give about a 1 and 45 seconds to prepare for the questions then another 1 min and 45 seconds to respond.. bleh.

I’m hoping I get the opportunity to get interviewed from them again. It’s my top school. ?  Do you know where to find good BSN applicant questions? I can’t find many here, it’s usually for graduate programs or for jobs.

Thank you!  It gives me some idea what they going to be asking. I've been searching all over the internet, but similar questions I found on Youtube.  I was watching different videos and it basically tells you how to answer certain questions, what the admissions what to hear etc...  I am pretty sure that they going to change questions for this year applicants, but I think main thing they want to know is how committed we are and if we fully understand the role of a nurse.  I am going to write down different questions and answers  from different sources and do mock interview with my hubby I guess. LOL. It kinda sucks that there is no real person interviewing and such a short time to answer....  I get nervous recoding myself LOL

Hi Im new to Allnurses!

Did anyone else get their interview invite? I received mine a few days ago but I have been too nervous to start do the interview. Haha Does everyone who applies get to the interview portion, or have they already started eliminating? Also, does anyone know how long after we submit the interview will we find out whether we were accepted? Thank you!
