UT pay and work environment??

I'm a BSN new grad and just applied to a few jobs at UT Medical Center.

Anyone work there or know anything about pay, benefits or work environment?

I'm coming from Louisiana so I'm well aware of how low pay is here and in Tenn.

How about nurse/pt. ratios? What are they like on a typical med-surg floor?

:redbeatheThanks and good luck to all my fellow new grads...I know it's rough out there...

Great hospital and great city to live in. Pay is low for the entire area and east TN, benefits are mediocre and possibly expensive depending on what your family size is. I think it is 5-6:1 on med-surg floors

Thanks so much:yeah:

I'm sure this is just wishful thinking in this job market, but any idea if they offer relocation bonuses? Why are benefits there not that great? Oh, and we're a family of 4, two kids under 6.

One more thing I forgot....what are the shift diffs like for nights, evenings and weekends? Thanks again.

no relocation bonus that i know of. benefits are fine with a family that large, but for a two person family w/o kids it is expensive b/c there is no employee + spouse plan. it is either employee, or family. the price nearly triples to simply add a only a spouse

UT is a great hospital to work for, East TN sucks on pay tho, new grads range from 18.50-19.50 for RNs shift diff ranges, benefits are Okay.

DEPENDING ON STAFFING, which you will learn in nursing changes often, you will have between 5-8 patients a piece on the floors, ICU 3:1 depending on condition and needs of the ICU patient.

Then you get the lovely plus of putting up with all the new resident docs in July. Over all it is a great working environment, There is things I hate about that place as well as I do about other places.. It's usually upper mgt issues and papers and charting before patients, those issues are anywhere you go tho.

pay is actually a little less than that for new grads. i know of a new grad in the new residency making

8? What floor is THAT?

Typical is 4-6 on days depending on the floor. 5-6 on nights. On RARE and VERY RARE occasions you might get a 7th on nights.

Insurance is very reasonably priced. 401k gives 5% of your pay with no employee contribution required.

Pay stinks in all of East TN unfortunately.
