USM acceptance Spring 2015

Hi I am applying to the school of nursing at the University of Southern Mississippi and I was wondering if anyone had applied to this program or previously applied and were accepted. If so what was your ACT score, prerequisites GPA, and Kaplan score if taken. I am extremely nervous and any responses would help. Thanks:)

I haven't applied to that program. But I do know from experience that if you have an above average GPA and ACT score, you can expect to be in the competition. Sometimes people with lower GPAs and ACT scores get accepted though.

Thank you for the response! I hope I have enough to get in!

I hope you do too, fingers crossed. :cat:

I'm applying for the spring 2015 semester so I would love to know as well! Since you're done with the application process, please update this to include your scores! I'm taking the Kaplan next Thursday so I'm pretty nervous.

Hi! If you were accepted, please share your experience. There are a few of us that just took the Kaplan. We are applying for the fall 2015 so our apps are due feb 1st. So of course we are freaking out!! Thanks!

Hi!

I hope this reply isnt too late. Even so, it may help others in the future.

I just graduated from USM gulf coast in May. I was admitted fall 2013 so I didnt have to take Kaplan.

My prereq GPA was 3.5 and ACT score was 21.

Hope this helps☺️

Hi!

Which USM nursing program (Hattiesburg or Gulf Coast) is easier to get into?

If you don't know that's fine though!

Thank you!

(Might be a late post, but in case anyone else is curious and applying stumbles on this thread...)

I was accepted to the Fall program with an ACT of 21, GPA of 3.9, Kaplan score of 88% (with 100% on critical thinking). My ACT was right on the border, so I was worried that would hurt me, but I think the other scores compensated for the low ACT.

Also, DO NOT buy that purple Kaplan prep book-- total waste of money, and the test is NOT like what is in the book! The only science on the Kaplan is physiology, math was SO easy (fractions, decimals, etc.), and for the reading and writing sections the best thing to get is an ACT prep book because that is pretty much what it will be like. There are also some youtube videos with people explaining what to expect. I had such a hard time finding good information on the test since it is still fairly new.

Good luck to everyone!

Hi Dorothy!

What school did you attend prior? And did you any sort of experience?

I would say they are both equally competitive. The Gulf Park campus is a lot smaller and I believe HBG campus has more slots. I am starting the program in the Fall as well. GPA 3.6, ACT score of 24, Kaplan score 82%

Thank you! Also do you know if they only use your prerequisite gpa, or your total gpa of all classes you have taken?

Your total GPA for the ONLY required classes taken.
