usf information for fall 2012

Hello everyone !!! (new to the site)

I am a pre-nursing student at MDC. I am graduating on april or may of 2012 with my AA. I am planning to apply to USF ( UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA) thats my first choice and then comes FSU,UF, UCF AND BARRY. I would like to know some info about the university and specially the nursing program. I already filled out some part of the application to FSU since is open a year before of the planning entrance term. Also, I would like to have some feedback about the volunteer hours if they just accept the ones related to the medical field. I am part of the volunteer team at Miami Children's Hospital in the PICU (pediatric intensive care unit) and I volunteer at MDC tutoring students that are learning english and spanish as a second language.I would really appreciate your comments. God bless you :)

My best advice is that you make sure you answer all of the questions given in the instructions for personal statement. Take into consideration the sample curriculum and philosophy statement. Include a personal experience whether that is work, volunteer, or family. The admissions department reads hundreds of essays in a short period of time, so you want to make sure your essay stands out.

Thank you for the response Very. I am applying for the upcoming summer term and just want to have the best shot.

@Very, are you doing the traditional or 2nd degree bachelor's program?

I am in the traditional bachelor’s degree program.

USF is a tough program, but I'm graduating from accelerated program. Whole different ballgame and experience! But obviously it is absolutely doable since I (and other members of this site) have made it through. Around 60 upper division are usually accepted. I had a very enlightening talk with one professor who helped choose students for the program. They pride theirselves on bringing the brightest minds in this program. Multiple people read your personal statement and that is a BIG part of your acceptance, as well as GPA. Not saying everything else it not important, but those two are major. There are more females than males, but the guys do represent:). There was seven guys in my class.

Thanks for the input CNA Sam! I am planning to apply for the Summer accelerated program. I am just struggling with my personal statement. Hopefully I get it together and get in!

Hi RN Sam, I wanted to send you a PM but i'm apparently not active enough on this site yet :) I saw on another thread that you enjoy reading others' writing sample? If so would you like to read mine? I am about to apply to USF's summer '12 accelerated program but just need to make final touches to my essay and could use someone's objective opinion. If not are there any pointers you could give for answering questions such as "plans made to ensure success in program"? I seem to have a more difficult time understanding what admissions is expecting and looking for with that question. Thanks!

Yes I will. Get up 15 posts ( browse around the site) and then you can PM :)
