USF applicants 2013

Wow, all of this is intense. I applied for the school in general and still haven't heard from them...I guess they're waiting for me to finish all my credits in my community college.. I wonder what's the best outline for making a great essay for USF would be? Like making three major points...what did you talk about in yours @PalmHarborMom? also have you made any new friends..is everyone friendly..like you guys get to go out for fun once in a while?

CookieCruz- There are instructions for the essay with 3 questions that you have to answer in the essay. Here were the instructions for the essay for my semester. Keep in mind that they may change the questions or format at any time, so be sure to check the instructions applicable to the semester that you are applying for.

Please provide an original writing sample to be used in the admission decision process. Limit writing sample to two (2) pages, single spaced in Times New Roman 12 point font. Standard one inch margins are required. Writing samples that do not follow these guidelines will not be reviewed.

Please read the sample curriculum and philosophy statement available here. Then, respond to the following questions in a careful and thoughtful manner.

• What motivates you to pursue nursing as a profession?

• Given the rigor of this program, what plans have you made to ensure your success?

• Describe how your leadership, service, and volunteer experiences will contribute to the nursing profession.

In answering the questions, be sincere about your motivation. Also, ensure that all grammar and spelling is correct. The essay is 40% of the total points calculated for admission.

And, yes! The people at USF are all friendly that I have met. I've made lots of new friends since I started attending there. Even though our class has over 100 people, it is like a big family. You will love it.

I applied to USF about a week ago and I read on their nursing website that one needs to be admitted to the University first before applying to the nursing program. How long did it take to hear about a decision from the University?

The application deadline is approaching quickly so I'm worried about finding out last minute.

Reading this gets me so excited! A hundred dollars a scrub! Wow! I'm plan to get a summer job so I can save up money for things such as uniforms and supplies.

xmadmoizellex- I would contact the advisor's office and the admissions office to check on the status of your admission to USF. If you can, show up at the admissions office and see a transfer advisor. Unfortunately, the nursing advisor's will not meet with you until you are already accepted. (that's why you should see the transfer advisor first) My application took about 4 weeks to be approved because of a hang up with my military credits. However, it was resolved by me going to campus to talk to a transfer advisor.

Yes [COLOR=#003366]xmadmoizellex, the scrubs are seriously overpriced (they are a thin, flimsy material if you ask me), but welcome to college life! Everything is overpriced. It's too bad they don't just tell us to go buy scrubs from wherever, then have a USF patch attached. They do that for the dress code for community and psych, why not scrubs?

The people in charge of the nursing program really seem to get it, though. While we have a lot of up-front costs (I just spent $300 on titers and immunizations, and there's more to go...) they say we'll reuse several of our textbooks, and there won't be new software every semester, or new lab kits every semester, so that helps me with the sticker shock. They also offer book rentals at 50% of the cost of a new book, but you have to make sure you're not renting a book you'll use next semester.

I love USF so far, even though my classes haven't started yet. Orientation was awesome. Can't wait to get started!!!!

I am currently a student at SPC and I am applying to USF's nursing program as well. I'm hoping for the accelerated program but I'm going to apply to both just in case! For those asking about how long it took to hear from USF about general admission to the university, I heard back from them in a week! I'm assuming it would depend on if you submitted everything accurately and they received all of your records but it was a pretty easy process! Plus you can check admission status on myUSF.

I currently attend USF, and I really really want to stay her, so hopefully I get into the fall 2013 upper division program! I did get into FGCU's nursing program for the fall 2013 though, so at least I have that. But my first choice is USF! goodluck to everyone!

I got accepted to the university! Now I'm working on the nursing application. Thank you for your help!

Well, I'm currently awaiting my application status from the university overall I have a 3.65 gpa now so kinda bummed..but it is what it is. I just hope I can get accepted with that low a gpa ..if not time for plan B!!!
