US/Mexico Border Work

Nurses Activism

Published

Does anyone have experience working at the US/Mexico border as a nurse? Could be in public health directly at the border, nearby at hospitals that serve large populations of immigrants.

I am a bilingual RN, currently volunteering at an NGO in Honduras, but feel called to return to the states to in light of the recent treatment of immigrants from Central America.

I can only imagine the need of medical attention is very high in this population, but I am having a hard time finding organizations that are working directly with this population in these areas.

Any advice?

Also, location could be anywhere. From border crossings in San Diego, New Mexico, to Texas.

Thanks!

I don't have experience doing such work, but I have received recruiting overtures for positions with ICE so there is defintely a demand for nurses...at least for psych nurses anyway. I'm sure other types of nurses are needed as well.

There are also agencies/registries that will place nurses on such assignments. A Google search should turn these agencies up.
