Well here it is, just past teh agreed time they would contact me and let me know wether or not they would be interested in hiring me.....The stress is killing me, I don't want to call them, but I hate this waiting game. I am almost 100% sure they are not going to offer me a position. For some reason I think if they had wanted to hire me they would have been excited to tell me the good news....... If this waiting extends past this weekend, I am not due to get very much sleep. Itis really hard to focus on my NCLEX studying and my job worrying like this....urghhhh thanks for letting me vent.........xoxo

If they told you that they would call you today to let you know, and you haven't heard from them by the end of the day, call and ask politely if they've made a decision. Hospitals (especially big ones) hire a lot of people and sometimes the process is slow. I'm a recruiter, and sometimes I can't get back to people as soon as I'd like due to other things I'm working on. Managers are like patients -- they all think they should take priority now matter what else is going on! Sometimes managers promise applicants that they will hear something by a certain date, but I have 50 other things to do before I can call that person. I never mind if someone calls to ask where they stand, and I always try to check in with people before a long weekend so they don't have to sweat and worry instead of enjoying their time off. Best of luck!

Be persistant. Let them know you are interested, call them. The squeaky wheel either gets the grease or it gets replaced. What do you have to lose? If they've made their decision, then you know. If they haven't, then they know you are persistant. That's how I got my job. I kept on them until I got the interview.

Oh my god! When I read this I started CRACKING UP because you sound just like me!!! :) I was just thinking the exact same thing, that the reason the hospital I interviewed at is taking SO LONG to get back to me is cuz they must not want me! I can completely relate to your situation cuz it is so hard to stay focused on NCLEX studying at the same time! Doesn't it feel like time is dragging? I find it hard to talk to other non-nurses about anything else! whenever i'm with my husband or mother or any friend or even acquaintance, the NCLEX and my interview is all i talk about!! :) They must be like oh my word, enough already! :) Anyways, you sound so much like me I had to write! good luck!!!!!!!

So I decided to call the HR woman late yesterday afternoon just to get it off my shoulders and I got directly linked to her voicemail. If I wasn't going to get the position then I would at least like to know ASAP so I can start making alternate arrangments. Her voicemail said she will be on vacation from Thursday May 26th to Wed June 1st!!!! Why would she tell me a call back time when she would be on vacation?? She left the number for her assistant to call if it is important which I don't think it really is. So here I go, in waiting for another week.......grrr.
Xokelly,
That totally stinks about the HR woman being so absent-minded! the least she could do is just let you know! I am in the same boat, have not heard back from my #1 job choice yet...and the interview was exactly three weeks ago from today! So I'll be spending my whole weekend being nervous again and wondering why people take forever to get back to you....it's torture! I mean, how many times can you call someone?! hang in there!

I 'm understanding to the fact that the HR woman is probably really busy and has a million other priorities before me (hmmmmm) , but If the answer were to be no I just wish they could tell me as soon as possible so alternate arrangments could be made; ya know? This has got to be the worst feeling ever, hanging in limbo. Whats makes it so much worse is my good friend from school got a job offer the day after her first interview. I feel like crap graduate nurse !!!!Goodluck to you too!!!!!
Keep me posted!!!!!

Thought I'd jump in on this thread because I've also been waiting a while to hear about where I stand on most of my applications. It's driving me crazy, and although I'm very happy that several of my classmates already have jobs lined up, that only adds to my wondering if i'm ever going to get a job this summer. Honestly, even if I didn't start this summer it would just be nice to know so I can make some alternate plans. It makes me feel a little better to know i'm not alone in my frustration.
Whew! It sure felt good to vent.
I wish you both the best in your job searches. :)
The hospital called me today and said one of my academic references was not returning thier call and they wanted to know if I wanted to provide them with a new name or continue the waiting game. Hmmm. So I gave them a different reference from school. The same day they called at work and I heard from everyone in the office that my boss made me sound WONDERFUL!!! I'm excited and I hope this means good news, the waiting still sucks though.........

Geeez, you guys!! I'm so sorry you are having to go through all this waiting!! Like you haven't been through enough stress lately!! I just find it so strange that these hospitals are dragging their feet on hiring. If they are anything like the hospitals in my area - they need nurses quick. Maybe times have changed in the last 5-6 years, or I just got lucky - but I got (desperate) phone calls within a week. But I have read several posts here lately by people waiting and waiting.... what's the deal?
xokelly2 (and all of you waiting)- if you haven't already applied at other places, I would advise you to do so - a little competition never hurts. You should be able to go out there and pick and choose.
Good luck everybody!!
