UNG Fall 2013

I know it is still early, but thought it would be nice to start a new thread for the Fall 2013 ASN students on here. Which campus you will be attending and where you are commuting from? I will be at the Gainesville campus and live in Jasper.

I hope that there is a facebook group for our class... I think it would be great for communication about assignments, organizing study groups, etc.

That is too bad about not returning to JC for clinicals... EJC is practically in my backyard.

Hey! I have an idea! Not sure if all of you have Facebook or if you are like me and considered deleting yours during nursing school (haha) but an idea came to mind that has been ever so helpful to me in other areas, like work: A private Facebook group! Let me know if any of you are interested! If not, then I may just go through with deleting my Facebook when school starts as I won't have much other use for it during that time. Hahaha :)[/quote']

I'm interested in a private FB page for our class.

did anyone else see that email today and sign up for the nursing mentorship program?

Me too!

I'm interested in a private FB page for our class.

Signing up for a mentor is a very good idea. I signed up for a mentor first year and the person never contacted me. I didn't feel comfortable contacting them since they never contacted me.

I unofficially mentored sk8inghunny (from here on allnurses) last year and hope that I was of some help to her, answering questions, offering guidance and just holding her hand, as nursing school is unlike anything you've ever done in the past.

Habersham is another clinical site for the first year. Even though it is a small hospital - I will tell you that you'll be able to do a lot more at Habersham than other hospitals. My clinical group was able to do things others were not able to do. So don't be disappointed if you get the small hospital - it has its benefits.

Kmp5 - you hope you were of SOME help to me lol!!! Girl you are what got me through and kept me calm!!! :)

Hopefully it works out, if not please don't be upset if I harass you sk8inghunny and Kmp5 ;)

You're right, Habersham instead of Chestatee! For some reason, I thought you went to Chestatee!

Dupton, please don't worry about it. I'm willing to answer any questions, as I know how scary and hard it is.

I agree dupton! You guys have been so helpful in answering all of our questions! I am both excited and nervous!

I want to make sure I stay on top of things as well. I work full time and I have a family. They are very supportive!! Seems like there is a lot of independent learning, which is fine by me. I'm pretty good with time management and I use my calendar like its made of gold!! Helps me keep everything inline!

I'm thinking about quitting my job second year and work somewhere as a PCT

Nikki,

Trying to get work in the hospital is a very good idea. If you work as a PCT at NGHS you are pretty much guaranteed a job after you graduate. New grad jobs aren't super easy to get so getting your foot in the door is a great idea. NGHS, Northside and Gwinnett have nurse extern programs that you can do during the summer after your first year.

It's not easy working and juggling nursing school but it can be done.
