Can anybody blow this doubt off my mind.....Im thinking of taking up nursing as my second course or degree, but what Im most concerned about is..is graduating on 2009 too late for us to get a chance to get to the US? (loving the job isnt an issue coz Im pretty sure that I will).

Thanks in advance.

If you really want to go to the US, your only limitation is passing the NCLEX and the English tests after your BSN. There will still be shortages in many areas by that time. Based on some articles (NY Times has a graph on it), the projected shortage will continue until 2020.

.... the American Hospital Association, which reported last month that U.S. hospitals have 118,000 vacancies for registered nurses. The federal government predicts the accelerating shortfall of nurses in the United States will swell to more than 800,000 by 2020.

Hi everyone! I'm new here. How hard is it for a Phil nursing grad to get a job in the US (granting one is already an NLE, NCLEX and TOEFL passer) and how long will it take? Will it be much easier for a Filipino who studied in the US with a student visa to get a job in the US? Please help. I want to go to Nursing school but am confused as to whether it is worth studying in the US as oppposed to studying in the Philippines.

Its more expensive if you study in the US...........

I know of a way on how international students can get a loan in the US. They just need a co-signer who is a US citizen/permanent resident. But you're right; it is expensive.

I've read about the new Nursing program in Arellano University from another thread where you can take you first 3years in nursing school in the Phils and take your last year in a school in West Virginia, USA. After that, you'll be considered as a US grad in Nursing and be qualified to take the NCLEX from there. I'm really interested in this because it seems as if it will make it easier and faster for you to get a job in the US as a nurse. do they accept 2nd courses? How strict are they when it comes to applicants? and is there an accelerated/fast track program for this? Thanks for your help, guys, I really appreciate it

Yes they do accept second coursers but you have to show them your flying color grades. They are more specific in your grades from high school or college. You just have to write an essay about something and pass the interview. Then you're in. There is no fast track program for this. To think of it, you are just going to stay in the Philippines for 3 years. :)

Than you so much for this. I will just worry about the NCLEX and the english exams when Im done with the course iself. Im just glad knowing the they still need nursing until 2020, but I hope they will not resort to measures that UK is taking right now. :scrying: .....I guess I just have to dedicate my time and 110% of my effort on this since everything after I graduate with my BSN will be a make it or break it situation. :p

Thanks for this too. I really need this information for me to decide whether to quit my present job and secure my future or keep my job and be stuck....:roll

Thanks Gemini Star for the responses. What if my grades in college aren't so high? My grades are not exactly low (hindi naman lagpakin) but they're not exactly stellar either. Although, my grades during my senior year were pretty high. Will that get me through? And is there an entrance exam? I just wanna know in advance so I can start reviewing if ever.

Mine wasn't high either but they do ask questions why did you get low grades. You can answer them smartly by saying you had a part time job at that time which was true for me. No entrance exam the last time I went there only the interview with the dean of nursing. The people in charge with the program are so accomodating they will really make you feel welcome.
