Hey, I've been on this site for the past few weeks just trying to find out info about the UMASS GEP program. I was just accepted into the FNP program :-) I'm really excited, but super nervous. Are there any students in the program or recent grads that can give me some advice? At the info session they were like "you don't have time to do your laundry or go grocery shopping" is that true?? I mean, after looking at the course load (19 credits the first semester and 20 the next!!) i just feel a bit worried.
I also wanted to see if there are any recently accepted FNP students out there...I kind of want to find out who is in my class!
-Thanks,
K.

Hi Katie. I have been accepted into the FNP portion of the program as well. Congratulations! I'm very excited and I am trying to avoid feeling nervous about what we have ahead of us. I would love to get in touch and I'm also interested in talking to current/past students. I'm new to this site and I don't believe that I have the ability to directly contact you with my information but perhaps you can contact me with yours? Otherwise I'll post my email address.
Hey! Congrats to you too!
okay so since I cant figure out how PM you... I'm Katie, 22 years old and I am about to graduate from MCPHS Boston in may. I spoke to a girl who is in the GEP program (year one) and she had a lot of good things to say. She basically said that as long as you study a little every day we'll be fine :-). She also said the professors try to coordinate their tests so usually there is only one test during a week.. two at the most. Apparently clinicals are insane at the beginning because no one knows what they're doing, but that everyone learns fast. She said there is a TON of paperwork for clinicals but that it gets better in the 2nd semester.
I'll try to figure out why I can't personally message you.. but I sent you a "friend request" and maybe that needs to be accepted first? Hope to talk to you soon!

To be able to send a pm your need 15 or more posts, however people who send you pm's you can read just not respond unless they in the pm give you their email address :)

I have also been accepted into FNP program for 2010. It sounds like it is going to be a lot of work, but everyone I have talked to has said it is possible with good time management! It would be nice to try to get together before August if you are all in the area so we can get to know each other.
That sounds awesome. Do you live in Worcester?
I live in Framingham and work in Worcester.

Moving to Mass. forum
what is the Mass forum?
It is the Massachusetts Forum for information on nursing programs in Massachusetts. I thought you might get more responses here.

I am in the 2nd year of the GEP program. Feel free to ask me any questions!

Sailrmar I have some questions... I am starting the program in August (acute-care track). Do you recall what month you heard from the financial aid office about student loans? In your experience did students who applied for the federal loans generally get the amount they requested? It's a strange feeling to be attending orientation in a week and not to know about finances yes. But I understand these things take time.
Secondly, I was reading in last year's handbook about uniforms. Do navy scrub pants still apply? And do students vary their tops (short white lab coat, or tan top) or does everyone stick to the same style? (My local store is having a sale right now).
Thirdly, realizing that holding a job is not recommended (or prohibited) the first year, the students that held a job anyway - what kind of jobs were they successful with? Do they have mostly babysitting or waitressing gigs?
Thanks for your help! Can't wait to start...
