UIC Graduate Entry Program

Hi folks,

Thinking about applying to UIC's GEP program. Anybody here applied and was accepted? What were your stats?

My stats: 3.2 Overall GPA/3.5 Sci BA in Sociology. Office Manager in home health care, tech in a medical equipment co, medical assistant (no cert) in dr's office and later office manager there. Volunteering in Nursing Home around 120 hours...

From what I can tell on their website, after completing the NCLEX, you immediately start the master portion of the program. Is this correct?

@jmonkeyjen I also signed up for the interview on April 22nd. I was hoping for a Skype interview because I live in Arizona, but I spoke to the coordinator today and she said that doing a phone or Skype interview is definitely a disadvantage. I really don't want to spend $500 flying to Chicago, but it seems like that's the only thing to do.

I am in the same boat. Its really hard to fly out there. I think this means I am not going to get in at all. Such is life. I at least have a plan B

Haha try again! :)

@jmonkeyjen it's not exactly ideal for me, but my parents are wonderful and they have offered to use their miles to pay for the flight! I am actually from Chicago as well, I just attend school at The University of Arizona in Tucson. I'm graduating this May! Where in Chicago are you from? I was raised in Libertyville and my family still lives there!

@steve21021 are you going to participate in the interview or no?

For Acute Adult/Gero did anyone notice there were only two time slots and at this point about 46 participants signed up?? That seems like a lot of interviewees for only two time slots?? In any case I'm glad we'll find out the final decision by the 26th, I'm getting nervous now!!

Final decision by April 26th or May 26th? Sorry I haven't received any email as of yet.

@elaurance, the adult-gero acute care interview sign up was pooled with the adult-gero primary care sign up, so I imagine there's roughly half of each (but obviously there could be more acute/more primary, no way to know!). And since it's small group interviews, I guess two timeslots seems kind of reasonable?

@rain, The email we received for acute/primary care interviews said "No other interview dates or times will be available and final decisions will be made that week." Meaning the week of April 22nd.

Thank you Sara! :) good luck!

April 26!! The email says that the interviews will be held on Monday, April 22nd, and that final decisions will be made that week. (I guess looking back at it maybe that doesn't mean we will be notified that week!)

@sara, that makes more sense, thanks so much!!

I will try for Skype, but I just can't afford it right now to drive or fly up there.

@katherinewerner I grew up in oak park (a suburb near Chicago) and currently live in Tinley Park (but looking forward to moving back into the city if accepted into UIC).I attended UIC for undergrad and loved living in Greektown (which is very close to UIC's east campus for anyone who isn't from Chicago). Does anyone know average cohort size? I attended the GEP information session; but do not remember the answer to that question. It does seem like a large interview group for adult geriatrics; but I am just happy so many of us made it to the interview stage. @steve21021 I am sure they understand not everyone can make it in for interviews; and I hope Skype interview goes well!
