Hey Guys!!!
So I'm about to graduate in June (currently in SD) and I just tuned in my application for UCLA Childrens (my first choice place to work!!!). Anyone work there? Anyone gone to interviews or anything that can offer any advice or suggestions on what to do next? The recruiter said they have an open house, but I have clinicals the day of, so she said she'll set up an interview after April 16th. Anything you offer I would LOVE to hear! Thanks bunches!!!

Moved this to the CA forum since it is specific to working there.
Do recommend that you apply to other facilities as well, there are going to be many more applying here for positions than there are posititons. You never want to have only one application in for only one facility. They are going to be getting applications from all over the country.
Best of luck when you have your interview.

UCLA westwood or Santa Monica? The reason I ask is because the Mattel Children hospital at UCLA in Westwood has filled up all there new grad slots (check the UCLA human resources website for confirmation). However, UCLA Santa Monica is in teh process of opening an expanded PICU, so maybe thats where you will be hired into.
Anyway, Suzzane is right. Competition is fierce. I know some classmates that applied at UCLA and receive emails stating they were not selected for new grad positions. So, I second you applying to other places.
If you do end up getting an interview for UCLA Mattel Hospital make an impression, it is a great place. UCLA has great team approach, from the MD to the care partner... Children fly in from out of state and some from out of the country. Took care of an infant from the Ukraine once. They had flown specifically for the surgery. I can go on and on. Its a wonderful place to work, and if you get hired there you will not regret it!
Thanks for your comment, it's nice to hear someone loves it! Did you go to the new grad program or do you work there? I think I applied to the one in Santa Monica, it must be because they are starting interviews for Sept. start after their open house so I know it's not full yet! I'm applying other places too, that's just my first choice, and I guess if I don't get it as a new grad I can try again later, right?
If you were asked to come in and interview Im sure they have some open slots. I was just going by word of mouth from other classmates and by their human resources info on their web site.
In regards to my affiliation with the hospital - I was hired into one of their ICU's to begin the new grad program in the summer. Good luck with your interview

shope: Could you please post more information about their open house? I'm interested in working at UCLA as well, and haven't heard of any such events from either recruiters or their website.
It's weird... did you apply to Santa Monica specifically? Because going through their HR section, I can only see a general position for the New Grad position that says "all facilities". Did you indicate or let your recruiter know your preference?
Also, I thought the only Children's Facility related to UCLA was Mattel, which is in Westwood.
Have you been in contact with Sheri (Recruiter)? What unit will you be applying for?
Thanks :)
love-d-OR: Despite your username, you'll be working in the ICU and not the OR? Was the OR program full or ICU is your preference?
Got this name when I had thoughts of going into CRNA or PA surgery. I was never interested in OR nursing, but I can sort of say the name still applies since I will be working in a SICU!
Anyway, UCLA has two locations Westwood and Santa Monica, and they both have a pediatrics unit.
