UAB AMNP Spring 2022

Published

Hey everyone! I'm creating this thread for people applying for UAB's AMNP Program of Spring 2022 as a place for us who have questions, advice to give, etc.!

Hey, it's nice to meet you! I have submitted my application already and have two pre-reqs to take this Summer. Have you attended any virtual information sessions yet?

I’m applying! I’m taking my prerequisites this Summer and in the fall. I haven’t submitted my application yet as I’m trying to boost it as much as possible before submitting it. So I won’t make the priority deadline. I don’t have the best GPA, so I want everything else to look good!

I definitely understand that! I know these months will fly by and the deadline will be here before we know it.

Hey y'all! I've already applied and I'm taking two prereqs this Summer, so Triniti it sounds like we're in the same boat!! I'm glad someone started this thread, it's so nice to meet y'all :)

yay! yes, I attended one earlier this semester but I'm considering going to another one haha... IDK if that's weird, but I want a little more clarification on what happens after the initial MSN and I didn't do a good job taking notes and I'm having a hard time finding it on the website. have you attended any?

I understand that LOL and no, it's not weird at all. I want to say from what I have seen in the recent previous cohorts is that after the MSN you are eligible to start working as an entry-level RN and if you decide you want to pursue advanced practice like NP then you will have to apply for their DNP program. I havent attended any sessions yet, I currently work full-time so it is a little bit harder to attend.

@MRenner During the information session, are you expected to have your camera turned on and talk? I want to attend one, but I think I have Zoom anxiety LOL. I can't imagine many people attending at once as they offer them every Wednesday, and I don't want it to be awkward with just me in the call. Nice to meet y'all!

I had mine on when I went to one, but I don't know if it's a requirement. I was one of three attendees and we made some small talk so it might be wise to keep yours on? but also, hike your own hike ?

Hey y'all! I will be submitting my application once I finish my last two prerequisites this Summer! Have y'all gotten volunteer hours? I know it isn't required but I'm trying to decide if I should squeeze in some this Summer or not worry about it.

Yes! I attended a few over the past couple of years and I found them to be very helpful. I usually would prepare questions I had before hand because they will open the floor at the end for any questions people have. You can also ask questions throughout their presentation though!
