Trying to pick a path, Need advice!

So the past 3 years I've been trying to get all my pre-reqs done so I can apply to a nursing program but I have been having a lot of trouble with school and grades. I have 2.3 GPA (I know pretty low) right now and I still have 4 more classes to take and I am thinking about taking them at a community college instead of continuing at SFSU, ,which is where I am now. I was looking into the option of going to Kaplan or Carrington in Sacramento to get the LVN then finishing up my pre-reqs then doing the LVN-RN at a CSU, at least I could be working as an LVN during that time instead a regular part-time job. I am just wondering if that a good alternative and if those schools are worth the money, I am trying to get this done ASAP, so just seeking advice or maybe other options.

    So I actually did a somewhat similar path. There is a time when I would have recommended it, at this time I cannot. Here's why:

    #1: cost of programs: the price is astronomical now. At least 40k. It was 16k when I went in 2004. Wouldn't recommend it now.

    #2: explosion of private schools. There is some many now, there's no way to be competitive for jobs

    #3: lack of good jobs because of the previous. With so many LVNs at this time and a limited job market,spending 40k on school and having loans to pay off on top of trying to finish school. It's not an easy path at all.

    If your heart is really set, find an adult school or ROP program. They are usually half the price or less compared to private schools. Or wait on a waiting list for an RN program at a community or state school.

    @nickilaughs Thank you, the cost was what was really making me not want to go but when you say adult school or ROP what are some examples. I only know of private schools, community, and state/university as options. Really appreciate the input!

    One example of an ROP program and if you're near it is North Orange County Regional Occupational Program the cost is definitely lower than private schools and although I don't live near there I wished I did. If your GPA is low then see if the programs you want to seek admission into has restrictions regarding "repeats" that's if you haven't exhausted any opportunity to repeat. If you truly want to start out as an LVN I personally would since it does not require a long period of time to get into the nursing profession because as a potential nursing student that's what I plan to do then look for an LVN-RN program or ADN/BSN Program.
