True or false.....eager to know

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

I would like to know if there are facilities that hire new grads (LPN) that havn't taken the boards. I thought perhaps a time frame is given to the new grad providing that proof is shown to the DON that they have passed the exam to continue working as an LPN. I was told there are places that does this,if so where?

What state are you in? I'm in Florida and I was hired the day after graduation. I worked as a GPN for two months before I took the NCLEX. I think it depends on the state as to whether you can work as a LPN before you are officially licensed.

I live in queens NY but willing to travel within the 5 boroughs. How long after being hired did u take your boards? Also did your job give you a deadline to show proof of your license or proof of passing the boards. I know you live in Florida but would you happen to know anywhere in NYC that hires without the license.Any info would help thanks

I was hired at the end of June, took boards first week of August. I believe my employer gave me a three month window to take and pass boards in order to keep my job. Sorry, I don't even know of anywhere in NYC :( Good luck though!

I'm in Texas. I was informed I had the job two weeks before I graduated, started working as a GVN five days after crossing the stage, took my boards a week later, and had my license three days after that.

It depends on the state and the facility. My facility would not hire me as a GPN. Florida.

It depends on what state your in....in massachusetts they do not have the graduate nurse title, which is a nurse prior to taking the boards....I took the boards about a month and a half after graduation since there were no dates open to take it any earlier....look up on your states BON website or ask an instructor cuz I know it varies from state to state. However there were a few facilities that would hire you w/ a testing date and pending successful completion of board(passing the NCLEX)....but those were few and far between since the economy was so bad and they have their pick....Good luck!

I am in Texas, where a GVN (graduate vocational nurse) can start working prior to having taken the NCLEX. Once the person passes NCLEX, his/her title changes to LVN (licensed vocational nurse).

I think in NY you just have to pass the board first before getting hired..people here just don't want to see another court schedules!

I worked as a GPN prior to passing the boards.
