Yes, this is an assignment related question, but I am also truly curious...
What if anything have you done to help prepare for the transition from student nurse to "real nurse"?

I did not pretend to know everything. I asked a lot of questions. I sought after nurses who have been in the field for years to be my mentor. During orientation of my first nursing job, I took the initiative to do things rather than standing there. Although I haven’t been a nurse for too long and began working on my PhD, I still ask questions. I also keep in touch with my mentors. I subscribe to professional journals and search databases for articles to stay abreast on current research.

I ask a ton of questions and study outside of work. I started in ICU as a new grad, so there is a huge learning curve.

One of the things that helps transition you, is your preceptor assuming you have one. Another has been mentioned already, ask a lot of questions. Don't stop learning just because your out of school. If you keep the same driven, mental attitude that got you through school, you will do well in your transition to the "real nurse".
