how does transferring work?

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Published

HI everyone, I am currently attending a private lvn school in Irwindale,California (premiere career college) . I am 19 almost 20 with no college experience and I live by myself. I am eager to finish school and I want to be at the top of my career while im still young. I was wondering if anyone could help me with information on different type of schools/programs that I can get into for my Rn License. I have a tough time trying to get information about how I can get my Rn once I finish with my lvn.

First of all my Grad date is Nov 2010. Once I finish I would like to find a job so i can have experience with me and to pay off my loan. At the same time though I want to get my Rn. This is the part where i get confused hehe. Ive looked online to find different lvn to Rn schools but im not sure how it works. Do I need to get my associates first in order to move on from my lvn? I hear there are waitlists for lvn to rn programs so I wouldnt mind to jump into another private school if there are any.

You might look into Indiana State University...I don't know much about CA's BON, other than they frown on Excelsior a bit...but with ISU, you graduate with a BSN and their program starts at LPN level. I've seen a lot of people from CA on allnurses, though, so maybe someone a little more familiar with the area can direct you to a brick and mortar school...personally, I am loving the self-paced route! I just started Excelsior, and have a friend looking into ISU...both great programs! Good luck!

I would say check out your local community colleges and universities to meet up with an advisor. Every area of the country seems to do things a little differently.

In my state, you earn your LPN and as long as you have all your pre-req's completed (I had to have micro, a&p 1 and 2, english 1 and 2, gen psych, developmental psych, nutrition, political science, and american history) you can go straight into an RN program, bypassing the 1st year of an ADN program. That's what I'm doing. I graduated in July with my ADN, and start my RN on Monday! I specifically went the LPN to RN route because it shaved 6mo off of wait time for the application process w/ a traditional program, plus it has the HUGE advantage of being able to work as a nurse while in RN school, the extra clinical experience that LPN students have vs. 1st year RN students, etc...

The other option in my area is to work for one year, and then you attend the local university for 1yr and earn your BSN. Again you have to have all your pre-req's completed though.

I've heard of some bridges where you have to have at least 5yrs work experience to start it, but in my area you can't have more than 5yrs, so I think you'll really have to contact your local schools. Good luck to you!!!

honestly i want to attend that college. Do you think I can make it through with a 14 month old baby? I'd appreciate if you let me know how the school is, and if it's worth it. Thanks a lot.

if you dont mind me asking, how was your experience at Premiere?

I'm also wondering about Premiere - how did it go and what are you currently doing?
