I received a D in my first semester of anatomy. That was the fist part of a two semester class. I then took a one semester anatomy class that combined anatomy 1 and 2 into one semester and received an A. I do not plan on retaking the D because I received an A in another anatomy class. The one semester anatomy class is accepted into the nursing school I want to apply to but it is looked down upon compared to the two semester class. Would they consider that D into admissions? I thought they would just pick and choose the classes they see from my transcript.

You'd need to verify with the schools you are applying to. Some will ignore the previous grade, others won't. Was the one semester class worth 8 units? The schools I'm applying to require AP1&2 for a total of 8 units.

Good question…I am not sure if this is the correct answer. Generally, schools will ask for transcripts from all previously attended schools to determine your cumulative GPA. Each school is different on how they determine which grade to use. I think most schools accept the higher of the two grades. Some schools do not allow for course retakes. Therefore the D would be the accepted grade. Contact the school of nursing where you plan on applying and ask. I would also ask if you could send them an unofficial copy of your transcript for advice. Perhaps you could even go as far as calling a counselor at the school of nursing to set up an appointment to discuss this matter.
Good luck to you.

You are correct in wondering about this. You should receive clarification on the policy before you apply. One school I attended changed their "picking and choosing" of my courses over time. I had a surplus of courses that met requirements, so one time, an evaluator removed every course possible that had an A for a grade and replaced those courses with courses where the grades were C's. I really loved that. It was my GPA that suffered. In your case, however, the stakes are greater. That D could prevent you from being accepted, and you will want to know where you stand.
The one semester one is a 5 credit course. Thank you all for your input. I appreciate it.
