I was just accepted at UCO for the fall. UCO has an excellent nursing program with an NCLEX pass rate of 91% (way better than OU btw), none of the other BSN programs around here have that high of a pass rate. I have heard a lot of negative things about OU's nursing from both students there and other nurses so that is why I stayed away from there.
I have heard good things about SWOSU as well.
OU usually has about 1,000 applicants, UCO has about 208 applicants each year and they accept 80 students, most of the waitlisted students get in.
My science GPA is a 3.8 and my overall GPA is a 3.4 and I had good references. At UCO they will look first at your science GPA (and they only consider the pre-req science classes; you can also retake them to get a better grade), then your overall GPA and you have to have 3 references from either science or nursing faculty and they look at other stuff too but I'm not sure what. The references are worth up to 30 points each so they are important.
The average is a 3.4 overall and a 3.4 science.
Good luck!!
Congrats on the UCO acceptance!
Congrats on the UCO acceptance! Do you know how likely it is UCO accepts transfer students? Or if UCO students get extra points, like OU does? The problem with UCO for me is having to take 2 or 3 of their classes that will not transfer from anywhere else. Not a problem if I'm likely to get in, because I could take those in the spring semester while waiting for the letter, but if it's very iffy there doesn't seem much point in taking their classes.

I came from Rose State, actually most of my fellow students transfered in so I don't think they give that many points like OU does.
I know what you mean about the 3 classes UCO makes you take that dont transfer anywhere. Just an idea, but a lot of people do this. They take Fundamentals and then wait to see if they are accepted and if they are they take Intro to Nursing and Development in the summer (both pretty easy classes IMO). If for some reason you dont get in your just "out" the Fundamentals class. Does that make sense? The Fundamentals isn't too bad because at least it gives you training and I think we can take the CNA test. I kinda looked at it that way.
It's frusterating I know. Have you thought about applying to OSU-OKC? I've heard they are a good school. I know they give a lot of preference points for OSU students though; I think most of the schools around here are like that. If I were you I would just apply everywhere you can.
What is your science and overall GPA? Last year they said the average accepted student had a 3.4 science and overall GPA, but I know some who had even lower. I think the references are given a lot of points.
Good luck!!!!
Do you happen to know where can I find information on NCLEX pass rates for different schools?

Same here. Just recently lost my job due to a reduction in force and now am considering going into the Bachelor's Program, though I wonder if at 59, I'm too old. I'm checking on Northeastern State in Tahlequah as it has an online program and is state supported (cheaper):) Who know's what the 'morrow brings?
I dont think your too old at all! There were 2 people in my Intro to Nursing class who were in their 50's :) They both got accepted into the program too. My childrens ped went to nursing school in her early 40's and went to medical school after thay in her 50's and said she wasn't even close to being the oldest in her class.
Good luck!

I don't know if you know about the new program starting up at Oklahoma Christian University (in Edmond) or not. It would be more expensive of course, but is always an option. I went to OC several years ago and it is a good school. They modeled their program after the one at SNU because they worked cooperatively for a few years. If you're interested, the address is http://www.oc.edu
