Totally wierd question...

Okay, I really hate to admit to this, but it's getting worse, so thought I would start by asking about it here. :imbar A few weeks ago I noticed a few, as in 3 or 4, hairs ingrown into my skin on my right shin. I thought it was a little strange, but no big deal right? I picked them out with tweezers, shaved them off, all gone. So, since then I usually shave every other day or every 2 days (I know some of you shave daily, sorry I just can't do it). I keep noticing more and more hairs growing straight down into my skin on both shins, no where else. It doesn't grow long then start to go into the skin, as soon as I shave I notice hairs just under the skin. I can see the hair, so I keep tweezering (is that an appropriate nursing term?) and it's starting to make me nuts. I just spent the last 15 minutes working on my left shin trying to get them all out. What the heck is going on? Iv'e been telling my husband for a couple of years that I want laser hair removal, maybe I'll be getting it sooner than I thought. Any ideas, no matter how crazy, I'm open to anything at this point, anyone that solves this gets a prize and I'll be totally devoted to ya! Thanks! :bowingpur

Well, I can certianly see where this would make one crazy. Personally, I never had a problem with that........I'm part Cherokee and have hardly any body hair. As a teenager I shaved my legs about once every couple of weeks and underarms about once a week.

Today, (I'm now early 40's) I shave about once every 4-5 months.

Before doing Laser tx, I would consult with your MD or a derm doc to r/o any problems.

Good luck!!

A Dematology MD is an excellent start! They know their stuff and can help you!

I too have a probelm with a few out of place hairs...on my chin...eek!!!!! Oh man I am just as bad with tweezers and wind up with wounds instead of getting the hair out! But I keep on pluckin'...(well...gets me to pluck my eyebrows..LOL!).

But a chin hair....EWWWW! I FREAKED out when I found it and asked my hubby about it and he said it was there forever! UHGGGGGG why didn't he tell me! I don't know how I could have missed it, it was thick and black! Oh I was so grossed out!

So I guess a shin is better, but still troublesome...just count your lucky stars you don't have them on your upper lip (again my problem and I pluck them too) and chin! Hard to hide them if you forget a day plucking!

Good luck and yes..talk to a dermatologist.

try exfoliating your legs every 3 days or so and use a

moisturizer for sensitive skin. You can exfoliate with a

loofa sponge and shower gel. Be sure to work the loofa

in a circular motion. Rinse loofa well with hot water and

let it dry completely before using it again. Hope it helps.

There is a really great product available at beauty supply stores called "tend skin" it is some sort of salicylic acid solution that works really well for ingrown hairs and other kinds of shaving bumps.

Exfoliating is a good idea, but I'd do it every single day if I were you. You say it only takes a couple of days to get the hairs, so maybe you'll "catch" them in time. I have noticed a big improvement myself since starting daily exfoliation. Use either your regular soap with a loofa or a non-oily scrub like those St. Ives apricot ones - they make one with salicylic acid as well, that would probably be perfect.

I was bout to post about "Tend Skin"... but i'm shocked someone beat me to it.

One of my psych patients told me about it long ago.... and I decided to trust her. And i've never been more greatful...

I had the worst razor bumps and burn on my neck (I'm a guy)... but tend skin application after shaving worked wonders....

I just can't live without it now... its amazing.

Try it... buy the little bottle for $20 or so... and you won't regret it... it will also last you quite a while if you use it sparingly...

Thanks everyone!

I'm off to the store today to see what I can find. I think I'll try the exfoliating daily with a St. Ives scrub first, then move on to other ideas if necessary. My new health insurance does not start until mid May, so I will go see my derm after that if things do not improve.
