Too much for the summer?

Published

My dilemma is this - The deadline to apply for the RN program is September, in order to qualify I need to finish my pre-reqs which would have my summer schedule looking like this

Microbiology Full Term mid day two days a week

Diet and Nutrition Therapy - online full term

Gen Psyc term A

A&P 1 term A

Dev Psyc term B

A&P 2 term B

This schedule is scary, but I really do not want to wait another YEAR to begin the nursing program. I do work, but my hours are easy and I can sometimes study at work. I work 6 days and typically arrive at work by 7 and I am out by 3 on Mondays and by 1:30 the rest of the week.

I have the full support of my husband and teenage son. Do you think this schedule is doable?

Am I crazy? I just feel that as an older student time really isn't on my side.

does your school have maymester or minimester? id take that nutrition during those times. those are only two weeks and especially if its online. and is micro during the summer. or are you taking that right now. other than that i think those summer courses are completely doable. good luck. i took chem and psyc during a summer. its all good =) ask me questions if you need too.

I understand that you don't want to wait another year to apply to an RN program, but with a schedule like that plus working, I think you will be setting yourself up to not get the best grades possible. Micro, Gen Psych, and Developmental psych are not hard classes, but when you add A&P into the mix, that may be the deal breaker. A&P is hard enough when you take them in a full term. I've taken 20 credits in the summer before, but I don't work and I'm a SAHM and that was really tough. I wish you the best with whatever decision you make, but you do want to have the best grades possible when you apply to nursing school. :twocents:

I wouldn't take that schedule for a regular semester, let alone summer. You're setting yourself up for guaranteed failure. You need to be patient and accept the fact that getting into nursing school will take another year. You've got the rest of your life to be a nurse, there's no need to rush your education like this. Take your time, get good grades, and lay a good solid foundation for future success. Don't burn yourself out.

Yea, the last thing you want to happen is for your grades to suffer b/c your class load was too much. Ultimately, you know what you can handle. Everyone is different. Good Luck

I can understand that you don't want to wait another year before applying to the RN program. However, that is a full load, not to mention your home/work responsiblities. If you can totally manage everything, and succeed without having to repeat a course, by all means go for it. Just remember, the competition is great, so ask yourself is this too much for the summer, b/c only you know your limits. But you also know your inner drive. Hats off to you.
