To be RN or not to be

I'm a second semester student( finishing up prerequisites for the nursing program at my school). I'm also not too long out of high school. I'm not sure if there is anything that any of you could tell me. Horror stories of the field. Benefits (other than monetary). How you came to want to be in the nursing field. How you knew you wanted to be a nurse. How you knew whether or not you'd be a good nurse. What strategies you used to get through the program. How rewarding it felt when you finally got to sign "RN" . Please let me know any of this info if at all possible. I'm getting ready to apply and I'd really like to know. If I can handle the horror stories, I might be able to handle being a nurse. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Good Grief - we're not test pilots or high iron workers & Freddy Kruger is not a co-worker - why in the world are you seeking "horror stories" from nurses??? It's a career, not World of Warcraft or Game of Thrones.

I suggest you make an effort to actually meet some nurses & talk to them about their work. Just going by your message, you don't seem to be tuned into the reality of the nursing profession.

I didn't mean it like that. I'm just asking someone to bring the reality to light about what nurses go through on a day-to-day basis.

That's where shadowing a nurse might be really good for you. Try to connect with nurses in your area (even better, on floors that interest you, if possible), and see if you can get a good sense. Or try getting a job as a CNA, because you're "in the trenches" with the nurses, getting hands-on with patients.

I would try to find out if your college has any kind of job shadowing opportunities. This way you can see first hand what goes on day to day in the field of nursing. I remember in high school I did job shadowing at a doctor's office. Or maybe you should volunteer at a hospital or something. Good luck to you.
