To apply or not to apply

I was recently selected for a PRN position at a local VA hospital. I have completed all that has been asked of me. To date, no firm job offer has been made. I check USA jobs weekly and qualify for a full time position that is posted. Should I apply for the full time position or wait until I actually get in and search the job boards at that time? Please help!!

If it were me I'd call the HR contact and ask that question. IF no firm offer was made there's not much sense in sitting around to see what happens. Call and ask about whether you should be applying for that position or if you can be considered right now for that position if it's the same department. at least that's what I'd do.

I agree with Extra Pickles on this one... I would certainly contact HR if you're truly interested in the full-time position. If you wait to be hired for the PRN position, you may be stuck with PRN (at least for a while).

Many companies, while allowing existing employees first dibs at a new opening, also have rules pertaining to how long you must hold a position you obtain. For instance, you may have to hold the PRN position for a minimum of six (6) months to a year before you are allowed to apply for another internal position... and while companies are often more lenient on accepting hourly changes (vs. positional changes), sometimes a change in approved hours does qualify as a new position.
