TMO

i called the TMO office at fort mcpherson today and have an appt. for a briefing march 4 before going to cot march 9. is that all i need to have set up as far as moving? the lady i spoke with said that's all i had to do and i'll fill out an app. on the day of the briefing, i'm not sure she knew what i was asking though. what i'm trying to do is have everything in my house packed as much as possible and then have them pick it up a couple days after cot ends so it will meet me at keesler the next week- my mother will be here to let the movers in but i won't be around.

will i be able to pick what day they come when i go to the briefing march 4 or is it more complicated than that?

is it ok if i have most things packed but pictures and similar items won't be?

how do i know if i'll have time when i get to keesler to find a home and how much time will i get?

and lastly, if i graduate cot april 9 i was going to try to have the movers pick up my stuff the 13th or 14th of april. would it get to keesler in just a couple of days? i'm hoping to avoid putting my stuff in storage.

The place that arranges your shipment will tell you exactly who to call and when.

Don't pay for a power of attorney. You can write up a statement giving X person permission to handle your goods, leave a copy of your orders, and have the whole thing notarized for about ten bucks at the court house - and if your bank has a notary available, a lot of times they'll do it for free. Talk to the notary and find out what you need. I should have posted this a long time ago.

Also - my husband was never asked for any paperwork from me - scary, but true.

Darn, I wish I would have know that!! Legal stuff is not my forte'!!

My husband wasn't asked for the power of attorney either!!

Little know fact if the person (has to be a spouse or an adult dependent) is on your orders then you don't need a power of attorney to have them take care of your goods ie. arrange shipment/pickup etc. TMO may still say they need a power of attorney, but just tell them to check the regs.

What frightened me was that they let my husband change dates ON THE PHONE with them, without ever having talked to him or me (this was the shipping company, not TMO). I thought that was a bit much!
