I've been lurking around here for a while but I've finally decided to join. I am pretty sure I am going to be starting my prereqs in January (about time!). I really am only interested in L&D or NICU nursing but we'll see. I am going to be going through the TMC-U program because I work in Nuclear Medicine as a tech. asst. and this is really the only way I can afford school right now. I also don't mind giving them a few years for them giving me school. Do any of you know about this program of have you been through it?

Do you have to give them a 3 year committment??
yeah, it is a 3 year commitment but in the big scheme of things I don't think thats a big deal.
Will you have to be on a waiting list once you finish your pre-reqs or do you get to go right in?
If you go right in (or get in relatively fast) then no, the 3 year committment is worth it.
there is no wait so I get to go right in... as of right now I am just not sure how long my prereqs are going to take. It's looking like it may be a whole year because I honestly never thought I would go to school so I never took any classes.
If you have no prereqs done then it will take longer than a year. You need to have a year of A&P, and you need a semester of BIO prior to taking that.
My advice is to get moving on the A&P ASAP. This is what takes students the longest to complete.
actually when I was in HS I took concurrent enrollment of bio (just because I found it interesting)... so I am going to test right into A&P (I am positive I will pass because I find it so interesting I try to keep learning whatever I can). It really shouldn't take me any longer than a year to finish my prereqs but if it does it's not the end of the world. This is all pretty exciting and new and I just can't wait to start my nursing classes.... I'm just not to thrilled about having to do my prereqs first lol.

NAU recently increased the BSN pre-reqs to 14 classes.

Have you met with an advisor from NAU about your plans? Admission to the NAU BSN program is very competitive.
TMC-u offers classes in nursing with both NAU and Pima.
Thank you! For some reason I thought kitten was walking about NAU. I forgot about Pima.
yeah I'm only planning on getting my ADN from pima....I figure if I want my BSN later I can always go back for it.

I'm doing the TMC-U thing now. I just finished my first semester with the NAU Tucson program, and so far TMC-U has been great. They pay tuition on time, and it's a 4 year commitment for BSN, but I'll need a job when I graduate anyway, and was promised when I signed my contract that I won't be pushed into a department I don't want (unless there are no positions available anywhere else, I suppose). Also, they pay for books if you work as a nurse tech after your second semester as a BSN student (I think it's after first semester as an ADN student, but I'm not sure..ask the advisor :))
