Tips on choosing a program?

Published

Hello all,

Applied to 3 programs this year.

Gained admittance to 2 (still waiting to hear back from the last one)

I was wondering if anyone had any tips for narrowing down the decision of which program to ultimately go to?

(I've already looked at the nclex pass rates over the past few years for both schools but other than that I don't know what else I should be considering - other than perhaps location of the school itself)

If you have any tips I'd be be grateful!

Thank you :)

First of all, congrats on being accepted to 2 schools! That's fantastic! Here are a few things to consider: Is cost a factor? Will one program grant you a BSN and the other a community college? What education level must an RN have in order to be hired in the hospitals in your area?

Something you could do is to look up your state under the United States tab. You could then start a thread under your specific state asking for insight into the specific programs from current students. Their experiences may help you to make your choice.

You have a big decision! Good luck!

I'm also in a similar predicament. I applied and was accepted to 4 programs. One thing that helped me narrow it down was attending admitted student events.

This will give you a more in depth view of the programs, as well as the cohort you'll be joining. If this isn't possible, I would definitely look at pass rates, and do as much independent research as you can about prospective programs. If you still can't decide between 2 and money is at all a deciding factor, go with the school that gives you the best aid package!
