I know there are people who have gone through the headache of selling their home, arranging TMO and maintaining their sanity.
I am told I cannot arrange TMO until I have orders in hand and I may not receive orders until a few weeks before I report to COT. How can I possibly arrange the selling of my home and the moving of my belongings on such a short time frame? I had hoped for some time off before entering military life, but it seems that I will need to pay for movers to store my belongings until I can contact TMO.
Also, I cannot secure housing until I arrive at my duty station? This is confusing! I plan to purchase another home and we all know it takes at least 30 days to close and arrange everything. Will I be allowed temporary housing until all that is settled? I like to prepare and have all my ducks in a row and this whole unknown timeline is getting under my skin.
How have any of you handled this move and sell and purchase?

Once you know where you are going & if you have the time before COT you can go on your own time and find a place. Yes you will get 10days of temp. housing once you report to your new duty station. Not all areas of the country take 30 days plus to close on a house. It was a suprise to me since I lived in NYS which takes 60+ days to close on average.

TMO can move stuff within 48 hours (I've seen it happen). I spent my life as a military dependent and am prior enlisted - believe me, they'll make it happen. A few weeks is PLENTY of time; there are people who have gotten their orders just a few days before they're scheduled to be in Alabama. I got orders about a month and a half before I left.
Don't know if you know this - you're not responsible for packing your stuff. The movers will come and spend one to two days packing and they'll pick the stuff up the next day.
I've also PMd you.
