Time off

Hello! I'm about to graduate nursing school and am expecting to start working the beginning of august. My slight dilemma is that my cousin is getting married out of state august 28th...so I will have been working less that a month. I know that I can't get vacation time that soon, but would I be able to schedule my work days so that I have enough days off? I would only need 3 or 4 days off. At what point should I bring this up to my employer?? Thank you!

If you knew before you were hired, you should have discussed the time off with your employer when the offer of employment was made. If you didn't know when you were offered employment, you can ask but most likely you will not get the days off because you're so new, unless you work 12hr shifts and they just scheduled you around the days you needed off without a problem.

If you are going through a new grad program/orientation with lectures, classes, certifications, and even precepting, that may conflict with your vacation. Doesn't hurt to talk to your educator and/or manager/director about the possibility of getting some time off. One of my new grad cohorts was getting married roughly 2 months into the new grad program and they allowed her to take some of the needed courses another time and shifted her precepting days so she wouldn't need to use vacation/PTO/sick time. Hopefully your department is just as nice.
