Hi Runa
I was hired "officially" on this past Friday. I start my pre employment health screening and take my pharm test tomorrow. My official orientation day is September 10th. So, I guess 2 weeks? I know that Bronx Lebanon has two orientations a month. It just depends on when you get hired. Good luck!

it depends but mine took from the day i was told that i was hired to the actual first day of my orientation,2weeks so that they'll finish all the background checks and other things.
Thank all for reply. I get job at New York Community Hospital, Brooklyn.
I get my licensure and ready to start orientation, but I need some time to visit my parents oversees. It is OK to postpone the orientation? What do you think, guys?

Tam, what pharm test do you have to take after completing 2-4 years of nursing school and a NCLEX test????????
Chloe,
I was most definitely surprised to find out that all of the hospitals I interviewed for in NYC gave me a copy of their pharm study guide!! I'm from SC and I never heard of this practice.... Most places give two chances to make above an 80 and if that doesnt happen, you don't get hired. Anyways, I took it with much disgust. It was a breeze though. Simple dosage calc and med SE questions. Isn't it enough I passed nursing school and the nclex?! Just one more thing to do before hire...
Runa, I would talk to the nursing recruiter that hired you and get her advice. I personally wouldn't want to start work and then ask off for an extended amount of time.. especially during orientation.
Thanks Tam,
interesting that they do that. I wonder if it's the same here in GA. We had to teach ourselves dosage calculations the summer before our first semester of nursing school at Emory U and we had to buy the book, complete the exam to submit all before the first class. Then we were tested AGAIN! If we didn't make a 100% we were to continue taking it til we did before we were allowed to start clinicals.
You'd think we were the ones making the orders!

Thank you, Tam. I will ask the lady from HR. Btw, I did pharm test too. The calculation was not easy. But it was funny though. For the one IV rate question I get an answer 8 ml/hr ??? Can you imaging such an IV rate? But, it was correct!
Good luck!
But, it was correct! Good luck!
and that's all that matters
