when i was on this site, i looked for advice on how to best take advantage of my $400 that i paid from kaplan (thank you visa)
and i could not find such topics... or anyone post a good answer that i could use.
well, i am writing this to help others who are taking kaplan, take advantage of their expensive course.
1. read the course book along with watching the content videos (if you have helen feuer cd's then listen to the cd's 3xs
2. listen & watch the question videos
(i know this takes forever.... but eventually the strategies that those ladies say actually stick and you will be able to apply them to the questions you get on the actual exam)
3. do every single question that comes with the kaplan course (qbank & qt) do these twice. the second time you do them, you will do better because now you know how to answer the questions, because it is hard to remember every single question.
4. for additional help for those of us who are not great test takers, but the kaplan nclex-rn 2007-2008 version. it really helped me understand how to break down the question. the two tests that come with the book are great and extremely helpful as additional practice.
i know it takes a long time, but if you do everything by the book and "understand" the rationale for each kaplan question, you should be fine. and don't do everything the week before the exam. take your time, and let the info sink in.
i hope that this helps others who will take the exam take advantage of kaplan.
kaplan does work.
5% kaplan helps you +
95% is the amount of studying you do on your own = rn
good luck to everyone taking the exam soon!!!:balloons:

Did you use Kaplan exclusively or did you use other study materials as well?
I am currently taking the Kaplan course (required by my program) but I also thought that I would use Suzanne's plan as well.
Thanks.

yes, most of my studies came from kaplan, but I also listened to the FEUER CD's as well as read along with my kaplan blue book

I took the actual Kaplan class..in the classroom and online. It helped so much being in the classroom.
I suggest taking the actual classroom Kaplan class..it helped me finally pass my boards.
I'm very happy to have passed. and I will definitely help anyone who asks.
*the books that I like for this test that you can get at your local store:
HESI review for NCLEX
NCLEX-RN review by Alicia Stein
Kaplan course book (that comes with the course)
Helen Feuer review for NCLEX cd's (great for content review, listen to them over and over)

I just wanted to add to her recommendation of the Helen Feuer Review because I transferred the CDs to my iPod. Instead of listening to the latest songs I was walking around listening to the Feuer Review Content. It really helped when I wasn't able to sit down with a book. It felt like I was in a lecture class.
I know someone who failed with kaplan and this person did not do everything that I stated on my first post on this thread.
This person just did all the questions in kaplan, but never read the book or watched the videos, the test stopped at 265 and got "near passing" on all the topics.
If this person would of put just perhaps 2-4 hours per day watching the videos while reading the book, and listen to the feuers cd(which this person had in their hands!) this person would of most likely passed "near passing"
Me, I was so afraid of failing that I said to myself "I'm gonna do everything that kaplan comes with, no matter how long it takes!", and the program does work, you just really have to put in your all into the kaplan program, and make it.
I know another person who is doing everything like me, and studying like me..... and she is so worried that she is going to fail, she tells me all the time "omg, I hope I pass...." and I am sure she will pass, she is studying super hard and doing everything she is supposed to be doing.

I agree, I know most people from my graduating class that took Kaplan, passed.
But they told me the same thing, that you have to do everything that kaplan comes with, videos and all.
God willing that will help me, now I am just doing questions till I get to the test, and the day before, I am gonna go over test taking strateggies learned from kaplan, GOD willing, I will be able to apply everything.

and I did pass!! I prayed to GOD that I would stop at 75Q and it did stop at 75Q
that test is very hard. About LOGIC not really about book study.
I'm using Kaplan.. i read the course book but i'm still trying to have the focus on watching the video content.. it just makes me tired sometimes going through it when it has the same content on the course book. i'm doing the qbank as well and question trainer. i hope i'll be able to finsh everything on time. and i hope i'll pass too.
most of the time i'm not using the kaplan strategies when i'm going through the questions. coz it's hard to predict when and what startegy are you going to use for a question. but i will have to say the kaplan helped me a lot in prioritization questions as well as delegations.
hope to hear some advise from kaplan passers here. thank you in advance!
