The VA VALOR program for nursing students

Hi all!

I posted something similar in the Gov/Military forum but did not get many responses -- figured I'd try here where all of us students are :)

After 2 job offers at other private-sector hospitals, I recently was offered a position at my local VA hospital as a VALOR student, and I am thrilled! The other hospitals could not compare to the VA in terms of pay, experience, etc. I know what a great opportunity this is, and the competitive nature of being accepted into the program.

Does anyone have advice or tips for me before I start this internship? I did some searching on the forums, but am looking for specifics -- what types of procedures did you get to do, etc..?

Also, if anyone has questions on the application/interview/hiring process for this internship, I'd be happy to help! :D

Hi I cannot give you specifics, I do have a friend who went through the VA VALOR program to receive her RN and has continued to work there. She is in a clinic working regular office hours and said she loves it. The government civilain incentive helped her decide.

Way to go!

Awesome! Glad she liked it. I'm hoping to learn a ton, and add to what I'm learning in my BSN program.

If anyone else has had any experience with the VALOR program, please share!! I'd love to hear your stories/advice, etc..
