I have honestly changed the way I think and practice thanks to this site. I don't write orders without the physcian actually giving them (tylenol/mom/simethicone etc), at one time I would have thought nothing of a nurse writing an order for tylenol etc. It helps to hear stories from real live people how they have been the victim of a vindictive physcian or some other course of events has made them liable for not only patient harm but atempting to defend their actions to their sbon.
Just last night I confronted a physcian who got rude with me for calling her at 2000 for an order for tylenol for a patient with 102.7 temp., this patient had received blood cultures that AM for a 101.2 temp she didn't think to give an order for it then? I explained to her that if she didn't want to be called for such trivial things that maybe she should give us some standing orders (she shut up quick after that :) , which is a technique I learned on allnurses !
I also appreciate the different perspectives I have gained by reading posts here, I am able to put myself in others shoes at times now. I now don't get as frusterated at my peers in ER/ICU/OR etc. because I can think back to someone on here explaining why they might be dumping patients at shift change :roll
I have also expanded my knowledge, to give one small example proper site area for lovenox, previously I was administering in about the right area but not the exact area.
It also helps my piece of mind to know that others are experiencing the EXACT same issues I am. Anyways just thought I would post something positive for a change :)
