Richard Nixon resigned under pressure of impeachment some 45 years ago. Gerald Ford became President by default.

His wife, Betty Ford created national awareness of her health problems, first of breast cancer, then of substance abuse, both alcohol and prescription drugs.

Her recovery centers are still active today.

She was a true patriot in my opinion.

Yep she was in ways that were not appreciated at the time. I’m old enough to well remember her struggles that were made worse at the time by a public that was infuriated with her husband for pardoning Richard Nixon and a press and mass media that were simply vicious. Her private battles with health and addiction were front page news and often the fodder for cut rate jokes and full on ridicule. Her struggles and efforts outlasted all that nonsense of the time and she contributed greatly to America. A patriot by any measure
