4th year and I have a 2.8-2.9

Cumulative GPA: 2.89

Grades:

Anatomy: C (currently retaking hopefully average to B)

Physiology: C

Chemistry: C

Microbiology: Retaking

Pyschology: B

English: B

...

As you can see I don't have great grades. In fact I have horrible grades and I feel like I've dug myself into a hole and can't get out. I am currently going to CSULB and with tuition increasing (now $2000+/semester) and the time I have been here, I feel like I'm...screwed literally.

I know to be safe in getting a spot in the school's BSN program you need to have at least a 3.4 (cummul.) and I believe B average in core classes (the 4 sciences) and good TEAS score is helpful.

However I don't meet that criteria.

I don't know what to do now....................

My future is looking dim and I'm sad to say I have wasted my time and money. :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

I just got my nursing assistant cert this summer but I suppose that won't help getting into a ADN or BSN program.

I've already thought about the LVN route but that is expensive. $20,000 is the cheapest I could find.

I thought about private school too (Mt. St Mary's College...). But the issue is if I will even be considered any where with my grades. I plan to takes TEAS in December. I will be buying a TEAS help book now to prepare.

My motivation is at an all time low..

There really is no one else I can talk to this about. Friends just say, "don't worry you'll get in" or "you'll be fine..."

Any advice would be nice. Thank you for reading.

My advice would be to retake all those C grades and pull them up.

And to not tell yourself your future looks dim. That's a lot of pressure, which in turn makes you desperate, which in turn hampers your brain power. If you don't get into nursing school, those grades will apply just fine elsewhere. The world is never without options.

I would suggest you find information on study skills. There are tests you can take that determine how you learn best. Evaluate what the problem is, why your grades are sub-par and get real honest with yourself. Are you devoting as much time to studying as you should? If not, get rudely honest about it, determine if this is for you and do what you need to do, either way. Could you have an undiagnosed learning disability? If so the school has resources for you. Are you a lousy test taker? Read up on test taking skills. Suffering from depression/anxiety? Get treatment now.

It is far from over. When I went back to school to pursue this, I had a 1.9 GPA from my very fun, very unproductive early college years. I worked for three years at pulling that up and I got my acceptance letter in the mail yesterday. I earned my spot. You can too.

I have a 3.0 and I didn't get into nursing school directly thru them. Even people with 3.8 were gettign rejected. So see if there are any expansion programs (programs where you can work for a hospital and get paid while you are in school. The one I am applying for pays for your schooling, books, and gives you a job after you graduate) the best part is they don't base your entry into their program on GPA....they do it based upon your personal interview...I have my interview tomorrow~ EEEEKKK!!!!!Just look around at the different programs and see if there are alternate ways to get your degree..like a LPN to RN bridge program...they automatically accept you normally if you already have your LPN....Don't give up!...I haven't :)

I'll third the "Don't give up". I would recommend retaking those three courses as well. You've already taken the classes so I wouldn't see a problem taking all three in a semester.

When I went back to school, I had a 1.32 GPA. Yes, I wrote that correctly. I have spent the last three years busting my butt to pull that up. I didn't get in for the Fall because I had a C- in one of my core classes, but I retook that and am hopeful for the Spring.

Please don't give up. It sounds like you really want this. Don't let anyone stand in your way, including you. :)

I know things may not look so good right now, but if your heart is really into getting into nursing, then buckle down and retake some of the C courses and bring them up. You may have to push yourself to work a little harder. Try seeking out other students and try to form study groups. Find study techniques that you feel will help you retain information better. Also don't try to boggle yourself down with too many classes, so that you are able to give yourself the extra time to study that may help you. Good Luck to you, and don't quit!!
