Texas nurses!

To be a nurse in the USA you should pass through CGFNS (http://www.cgfns.org) to confirm your nurse training, to pass its exam, to pass TOEFL and TSE or IELTS and afterward to apply to NCLEX.

CGFNS is the worst organization that I've ever dealt with. The process of confirmation your documants may take very long time. I have been waiting for more than one year and still do not know when I take its exam, disasterous organization.

By the way, you can get lisence using the Board of Registered Nursing of California. There you do not need CGFNS certificate. If you get lisence in California you can endorse it to another state.

I lived in Texas for a loooooong time. :) Practically grew up there. That's where I'm hoping to go back to one day. But I'm gonna go to school here where I'm at. And then I'll check out and see what you have to do to move states but still keep your profession. :) Just thought I'd say hi. Heh.

Vossy, I think that New York and Florida are also states which do not require the CGFNS exam. Check into it. The California nurses license is a bit involved and EXPENSIVE. You have to submit fingerprints and if they are unacceptable, it can delay your application and you would have to be re-fingerprinted if they don't accept the first prints. It happens to so many people! Better yet to contact the New York State Board of Nursing and the one in Florida, then once you get either one of their licenses, apply for endorsement to Texas, that would be your best bet. CGFNS is absolutely very slow. And you would need to take their exam before you get to the USA!

Go to Texas Board of Nursing website for some info. or call them. As for facilities, all major hospitals employ foreign nurses. Find them online, then email Human Resources about hiring practices.

During my interview at a Texas hospital, the nurse recruiter indicated that I had to have reciprocity even though I already have an Arizona license. I thought that having a compact state license like Arizona meant that I didn't have to get a Texas one. Now I will have to shell out some money for reciprocity plus get my fingerprinting done, which is also a time issue. I want to start working right away. I tried to look into the web site mentioned above but could not locate any information. Can somebody out there in Texas help me determine as to what the truth is regarding a compact state license for RNs?
