testing out for gen ed

I am wanting to start EC asap, but do not want to have to pay them for the gen ed. classes. I have my LPN license, but still need quite a few gen ed. Is there a way to just test out of them through a community college? The local college here offers some, but do you have to be enrolled at a college to do so? I know that I can get the books to study for it, but how do I know if it is the right book, for this particular test.

Thanks.

If you're looking at testing out of anything anywhere, I'm pretty sure there's going to be a fee. Excelsior publishes free content guides for each exam which include the names of the recommended texts.

You would of course talk to the advising office of the local college for the specifics on their credit by exam opportunities.

You would need to be enrolled in the community college usually in order to be able to test out of classes. The fee around here for testing out of a class is usually 75 to 100$ (California). When you attempt to test out of the class please make sure to try to get a syllabus and what sort of things are commonly covered.

Classes are usually fairly hard to test out of unless you have some extensive knowledge of the field.

Good luck!

you can take the clep or dante exam at any college for around $75 you do not have to be enrolled. Contact the testing or assessment center at a local college. Then you can have them transferred to EC or you can do them online through a regular college and maybe even use financial aid if you take at least 6 credit hours or whatever is considered half time. EC will allow you to take the nursing exams if you are within so many credit for your degree. I dont remember what the number is off the top of my head.

There may be a fee to have them put on your transcript.
