I have been struggling with taking telephone orders from MDs, because I am not super familiar with hearing medications and needing to recognize them so fast. Is there any resource or tips to getting better with medications and being able to take pain-less telephone orders?

What's commonly given varies somewhat from place to place. You should become more familiar over time. Until then, definitely ask for clarification of anything you don't understand 100%.

You must repeat the order back to the physician. You are required to. You should be charting order repeated back. This should definitely be incorporated into your routine and will clarify what they are saying

I always do a read back. It takes me a while to recognize the medication. I can see how figuring out the most common meds used on my unit would help. Thanks for the advice.

Some years ago, I searched a web site that had a listing of all the new drugs recently released for use in the USA. FDA had approved them to be used.

As I remember, many of them were heavy duty chemo meds and anti-virals, but I looked up all that were possibilities in my world of practice. (Pradaxa and Xaralta were on the list - tells you how long ago).

I was no longer working, so I looked up all those meds to be informed. Made notes and kept the list for a while.
