Telemetry Interview Help

Has anyone interviewed for a Telemetry/Step-down unit before? If so what clinical scenarios were you asked?

Thank you so much for the help!

I work on a tele/step-down type unit. The questions they asked me were more like, "How would you handle a stressful situation," and "What does teamwork mean to you?" If you want to prepare for the possibility of them asking you about clinical situations, I'll tell you a great deal of my patients are admitted for chest pain, NSTEMI, respiratory distress (we take vented patients), and a TON of SOB, which is most often caused by an exacerbation of CHF.

Are you a new grad?

Thank you for responding. Yes I am a new grad. This is my second interview, first for a telemetry position. The manager informed me they will ask me clinical scenario questions so I wanted to see if anyone had any examples.

I was asked these questions: What would I assess or expect to see for patients with CHF? If a patient comes in with chest pain, what labs would I order? I was asked situational questions as well with lots of emphasis on teamwork and how to handle stress.

Definitely, how to handle new onset chest pain. Remember MONA: morphine, oxygen, nitroglycerin, aspirin (well, not in that order). Stat EKG, troponins, of course call the MD first for all of these except oxygen if you don't have standing orders.

Thank you so much for the help. I really appreciate it. I have a second interview this week! Who knows what they'll ask this time..
