teamwork

anyone with any suggestions on how to get "everyone" to help out. we are short staffed (who isn't), tho weekends are pretty quiet,on occassion we have maybe 2 visits (sat and sun) and a total of 2 soc's all weekend, most of the nurses will pitch in and help the call nurse so she is not overwhelmed in case there are multiple calls, and with everyone picking up a visit or two it helps tremendously...there is one nurse who thinks she is the only one working hard, never volunteers to help on the other weekends, but when she has call, others pitch in....it is getting to a point where no one wants to help her because she won't help others. what do you all think?????

I think you, as a group, need to confront this nurse, be up front. "If you want help when you're on call you'll need to help us also". If she doesn't help, stick to your guns and don't help her either. Why would she want to change as things stand now? She is having her cake and eating it too!

you are 100% right!! we will do that, thanks for validating our feelings,

really makes a difference when someone else, not close to the situation, says the same thing

Just make sure that she doesn't come away feeling she can't call for help and thus may feel she is in a position that could lead to her making a decision that could jeopardize client health or safety.... I know you need to confront her, but maybe you should include your supervisor in the mix - to CYA......
