Hi Nurses!

I was wondering what everybody's thoughts are on tattoos on nurses? As in what is the general consensus is in regards to the public opinion about tattoos on nurses? I want to know if having tattoos would limit my job opportunities? Ive always wanted a sleeve but I feel like people wouldn't give me a job.. or am i thinking in the past?? Anybody got any ideas?? I'm from NZ so if you are too you would be the most helpful source but would love to read international stories too!! :)

I am a home health nurse and wear Long sleeves all year around. My boss doesn't mind them, she has tats also. However, I feel it is professional for me to be covered up as to not add distraction to personal care. Now, on super hot days I will roll sleeves up or wear short sleeves if it's a relaxed patient that I've had for a while and knows me.

I have to wear a sleeve on my right arm due to a tattoo on my right forearm. I will probably soon need two sleeves as I plan on getting my left arm tattooed. At my last job I worked nights and didn't wear anything and never had any issues/complaints but now that I am on dayshit and in a higher position I feel that its more professional to not be showing the tattoos (though I get asked more about my sleeve than I ever did about my tattoo.)

I have a breast cancer ribbon tat...while 9 times out of 10 it is covered up..when people ask it can be a good teaching tool for patients on screening exams.

Its on my forearm.

Nobody has ever said anything about it. Then again..I don't make a big deal of it either..

Different places will have different policies.
